Prenatal visits
What is supposed to happen at my visits? I just had one yesterday and I felt kind of rushed. My midwife walks in asks if I have any questions and if I say no then she just says ok see you next time. I want to go natural and this is my first time so I don't know what I should be asking. I always see posts about suggestions from obs and midwives but mine never talks to me about anything. I'm just 27 weeks so will she start talking to me when I get further along?

With my appointments I would get weighed have my blood pressure check and urine. My Ob would measure my stomach, check baby's heartbeat. Ask if I was ok or had any questions and I was on my way. Most times I felt rushed and believe there should be more for her to say cause I'm a FTM, but if there isn't anything wrong I was on my way. I too wanted to go natural and I did and even then there was no input from her or tips or suggestions. You should be getting all the things I mentioned done. Did you do your glucose test yet?

My midwife from the first appointment would come in sit down, ask me how I've been, if I have any concerns, or questions...
She'd let me know about what's going on and what to look out for in the week of pregnancy I was in, she'd also asked me specific questions according to my week also.
If I did have questions then we'd talk about them, if I didn't then she'd get me to step on the scale, then I'd lay down on the couch,I'd get my blood pressure taken, she'd feel my stomach, feel which way the baby was, measure my stomach, then put the Doppler on me and we'd listen to the baby.
After all that we'd talk about what tests are coming up, and she already knows that I want to do as few as possible, so she'd tell me the pros and cons of each and we'd go from there.
Op your midwife should be doing a hell of a lot more then she is, I'd sit her Down and talk about this. That your wanting more interaction and information.

My OB gives me very little interaction, as well. Like she's in my room to check for HB with her Doppler, ask if I have any questions, tells me when to schedule my next appt during check out & she's on her merry a' way. There was one time I actually did come with a question and she sort of dismissed me. Since then, I've just gone with the flow. Smh.

Might be an unpopular opinion... But I feel like this is pretty typical. Having a baby is a natural thing. If you don't have questions and you are healthy, I don't think there is much to be said.

I just had my glucose test yesterday, I haven't gotten the results yet and no one told me when I would be getting them. I really wanted to go to this office because they have midwives who routinely perform natural births. My midwife is young and I think she's new there so I'm not sure if this is normal or maybe she's not used to this yet.

If the results from your test are fine, I doubt they will call you.

That's actually pretty typical. At my monthly appointments the nurses would check my weight, blood pressure and urine. Then the doc would come in and check the baby's heartbeat and ask if I had any questions. If I didn't, he'd say "ok, see you in 4 weeks".

Most are 5 minutes. The medical assistant comes, takes blood pressure and weight, then dr comes in checks heart beat and sees if you have any questons.

Weighed, blood pressure checked, listen to baby's heart beat, each appointment they'd explain certain things, answer any questions, some were really quick, some were longer, received any vaccines when needed, given paper work on hospital some visits.

That's pretty much how mine were going before I started having minor complications. They basically just take my weight and BP, I go into a room and wait for forever for the doctor to come in. He would measure my belly and check the baby's heartbeat then and ask me if I have questions, I'd usually say no, then he'd just send me on my way.

Maybe at your next appointment say that while you don't have any specific questions, you haven't given birth before and are feeling a little overwhelmed and would like to hear more information? She may be assuming since you say you have no questions that you're researching on your own. She may just need a nudge.

I'm going to make a list of questions for my next visit in two weeks. I get so anxious this being my first time. I'm glad to know it's pretty standard practice though.
