I'm am just exhausted. Dd is a little over 2. She wakes up crying several times a week in the night. When I try to touch her (hug, hold, rub her back etc) she freaks out even more. She legit cried for like 25 mins. I managed to let her just run the course but I feel so bad. I don't know how to help. She won't use words she just screams. I try to talk to her calmly, make a soft shhh noise and even hum/sing) she just freaks out even more. Any advice for a tired momma?

Is she awake when you're trying to console her?

My 2 year old used to have night terrors and it sounds like this. He'd be awake screaming but it was like he wasn't really awake I'd have to hold him and start bouncing him and he'd eventually snap out of it. No advice here but he's 2 1/2 and they stopped before I gave birth to #2 when he was 22 months old

Honestly sometimes she doesn't seem awake (eyes closed) and sometimes she does (eyes open) she doesn't respond to me at all other than screaming more. I don't turn on lights or talk loud. I softly tell her it's ok and such. I try to get her to lay back down. She won't let me pick her up or rub her back. I end up just sitting there waiting it out. And I feel awful because I can't do anything or else she screams even more. ?
ETA she's like that with tantrums too. I can't touch or even interact with her. She's never been touchy feely. She is affectionate on her own time which I respect. Like if I were to just walk up to her and hug/kiss or try to pick up she gets upset.

My dd has done this a couple of times recently. It's horrible. I have no advice but am interested to see what other mums have to say.

Omg I'm going through this with DD right now! She is a little over 2 and she will just wake up screaming. She usually sleeps with DH and I and a little soothing with make her go back to sleep but its so strange. Following this post.

Yep my lo used to do this same as yours we could not find a solution

I am going through the same thing! It's always on and off. Some nights she is fine. Other nights she is screaming. She is just a little over 2 as well. I know I read somewhere that nightmares are quite common around this age.

My son does this and he is 2. It's because he usually wants his dad at night instead of me

Night terrors. Hopefully it passes soon. It's pretty common around that age. Littles who have night terrors are prone to be sleep walkers, so keep an eye out for that too.
My dd had night terrors when she was a little over 2. Lasted a few months then she outgrew them. Had a handful of sleep walking episodes between 5 and 8.
Good luck.

Ds is 2 1/2 and does this almost nightly.

Night terrors. It can be caused by over tiredness and stress. Make sure she is getting in good naps and going to sleep at an early hour.
My oldest suffered from this and now sleep walks when he is nervous about things.

My almost 3 year old does this whenever he’s over tired.

Sounds like textbook night terrors. My son is on and off with them. The best thing you can do is hold them and make sure they can’t hurt themselves. Don’t turn on lights or try to wake them up, it’ll make it worse. Try as little stimulation as possible. Just let her ride it out. It sucks for everyone, but I’ve been told they eventually grow out of it.
ETA: just read you can’t hold her. ? I would just keep doing what you’re doing. I know it’s hard to see them like that and feeling like you can’t help. But it’ll eventually get better.

One of my boys had these night terrors. I found a solution, but I'll PM it to you, bc it's unorthodox ? anyone else interested, can PM me too.

Thank you. She did it twice last night. She's been good so far tonight. She goes to bed around 7:30 she refuses to take naps during the day no matter what I try. I have tried putting her to bed earlier but she sleeps for like 2 hours and then wakes up and won't go back to sleep until about 2am. So I pushed it later. I'll try yalls advice.

My dd nust turned 2 and did this once only, hopefully never again, it was awful! 15 minutes but then she snapped out of it

Sounds like she's having night terrors. The best thing you can do is try to calm her down but not to fully wake her (which sounds counterproductive). But it's important you don't wake her or she'll be even more scared and confused. Try to calm her down for a couple mins and then put her back to bed. Unfortunately there's not much you can do except wait for it to subside.
