I've had a 4th degree tear and a 2nd degree tear. My 2nd degree tear took about 4 weeks to heal.

Did the pain get worse before getting better?

Yes it did

My 2nd degree tear was awful. It got a lot worse before it felt better.

I had a third degree tear and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

The first time I got a 3rd degree tear. It sucked. It tore from the vagina to the rectum. Pooping didn't feel normal again for well over a month, almost two. The stitches take about 2-3 weeks to dissolve but it still took well over a month to start to feel somewhat normal.

The second time, my scar tissue tore in the same place, but thankfully was only a 2nd degree tear. That time was much easier. It was uncomfortable for 2 weeks but then felt normal again. It just left me with the hugest scar ever though.

I'm sure it has to do with where you tear too. Some areas are probably more sensitive than others. Labia tears are less common but sound very painful.

First time I had a second degree tear...the healing process was horrendous for me. Hurt so bad! My second I had a first degree tear, barely felt it! I honestly forgot I even had stitches.

@att I know when she said labia tear and I felt her stitching me I was like wait you can tear there!? I didn't know that. Yes it's very sensitive and hurts way more than my first tear which was not a labia tear.

Are you using padsicles? They saved my life. I had a second degree tear, it took about 3 weeks for me to be able to sit without pain. I know not every doctor agrees, but mine encouraged warm baths. It helped tremendously.
