We tried to wait until after our shower, since we registered (at Target) for most of the things we needed. This worked out perfectly for us, and we haven’t had to spend any of our own money since we added SO much to our registry. Things we realize we didn’t need or received duplicates of (surprising how that still happens haha)—we returned, and got gift cards for other things we still needed. 😊
I bought a rock n play for $10 & not even sure I'm pregnant yet hahaha. I don't want baby showers anymore so I'll buy as I find good deals. If you're having a shower I'd wait till then, if you think people will buy big stuff.
My Aunt actually bought me a crib at 20 weeks with my last pregnancy. AND we set it up too. She really wanted to be the one to do it- she sure was a step ahead anyone else. I think 20 weeks is perfectly fine. You should consider if your family/friends often purchase large items at showers or just the small items like clothes, bath, etc, because if they do, wait, if they don’t, then it’s better to spread it across a few months or as you find good deals. Often a family member really wants to buy the crib- in my family it is the case- I actually think my mom might have been a bit sad she didn’t get to.

Never too soon. I have cribs, car seats, a pack n play, and bouncers so far.

Whenever good deals pop up. Babies R Us /toy's r us before they close. Or after a baby shower, if having one.
