gifts for older S.O.s children for Easter etc.? Advice or stories appreciated!

Glitch insurance! Also want to admit I am not trying to get his daughter or his son to see me as a step mom figure because it isn't reasonable or fair given my age or theirs and I'm more then okay with that :)

Gah.. and to specify he and I have been together for 2 years... his *daughter* and I didn't really get acquainted for a year... (he and I were haha) just wanted to make sure that is clear cause I realized it wasn't.

I have a similar situation but where I am in the same position of your SO's daughter. My step mom first came into our lives and started living with us it was a little awkward especially since my mother was still my mother like very involved. I had a little trouble with my step mom wanting to do everything for me like sign me up for classes, take me to the Dr, go on field trips and it took me about 2 years to realize that she was just a very involved person and wanted to buy/do things for me because she wanted to not because she sas trying to be my "new mom" looking back on it she always gave me gifts for all holidays but never over the top to top my mother. Just to let us know she loved and appreciated us. I would suggest the same. Get her gifts but not over the top and when she asks her dad to get her something don't ask her if you can get it for her just get it. That could be the start to getting closer and having her realize that despite the age difference you are there for her.

At 17 maybe a Starbucks gift card and a chocolate bunny

I have a stepparent who is closer in age to me than my parent and they came into my life when I was a teenager as well. It sounds like you and your SO’s daughter have a mutual respect for each other and get along as is, just be yourself and be kind and the bond will grow.

I would do a gift card and a bunny as well. Does she like makeup or anything? Sephora or Target are also good choices.

Based on her age I'd talk to her. I'd ask her if she would like gifts for Valentine's day, Easter, ect. I'd explain how you feel. That you don't want to over step or make her feel awkward. I'd explain why you buy gifts and how you'd love to get her something but are unsure. Honesty will help your relationship and it will make you both feel more comfortable.

I always did gifts for my stepson, no matter the age. I’m usually not a fan of gift cards, but given your situation I second (or third) the gift card idea. Starbucks, Sephora, etc. I’d also get one for the older boy (iTunes maybe? Or Starbucks) and just save them for him for when he comes home. Can you get a card, like an Easter card and it be from both you and your husband and put the gift card inside?
