Rant!
So I'm 17 weeks 2 days, and recieved word that they are making major schedule changes at my job to include increasing days working, yet also cutting hours... this change is taking place in several programs (I work in human services as a residential counselor)... I'm flat out worried. They won't say much yet, seems like there is a gag order on any management talking about it, but management will admit the changes don't make them feel good and don't seem to be behind them (meaning the changes are up higher). I'm worried and concerned. I work 37 hours a week, one of my shifts is one probably getting cut. At 37 hrs I'm full time, but my hours aren't guaranteed, and my benefits are tied to the amount of hours I work. I.e. time off, vacation, sick pay, help towards paying insurance (hell even ability to have insurance)... this means my insurance and maternity leave could very well be in jeopardy... even before then it will impact the money I'm able to have bills, buy things for my twins, and save for when babies come!

That stinks. Not sure I’m much help but look into your states pregnancy Medicaid program. It generally covers everything that your regular insurance doesn’t cover. And if you are to lose insurance for some reason, it will pick up the tab for you. In my experience doing eligibility for those programs, it’s fairly easy to apply and pregnancy/newborn screenings are covered regardless of income.

Hopefully it’s not as bad as you’re probably imagining. I am scheduled 72 hours per pay period, but my hours are not guaranteed either (I work in healthcare, so if there are no patients scheduled, we go home). However, when I am sent home early, I get “low census mandatory“ hours for the ones I am missing. I still don’t get paid for those hours, but those hours still count as “worked” toward my PTO accrual, insurance, etc. Hopefully your hours aren’t cut too drastically, but maybe ask if this is an option for the missing hours? Good luck!!

Apply for Medicaid if they cut your hours maybe you will be elegible. Ask if you will continue being elegible for FMLA and short term disability and if they will count your time with the company to go into maternity leave for 3 months.
