My little brother has it. He did go to a determatologist initially to get diagnosed (I believe), but that was about it. It depends on if you want to pursue lightening treatments to even out.
If you don't want to it to creep up or down depending on where it is,sun care and lots of it,cover up,sun exposure causes it to move. I am white and have it and it still is notice able on me
I learned it runs in the family. It's been on my ankles for the last 7 years. My OBGYN said it was from pregnancy and it would go away. I feel like it's only gotten worse since. My uncle is completely white now. I had no idea until today. I am a little scared of changing so much. And I hope my DD doesn't get it.
No big deal health wise. But psychological issues concern me. To be brown skinned all your life then to suddenly learn you could turn white? That's a huge change. I don't know if I could ever be mentally prepared for it. Although it may never happen. It's still very real and runs on my grandmother and grandfathers side of the family. I already am socially awkward. I couldn't imagine how I'd feel with white patches all over.
Dh has it. Started when he was a kid. Its on his hands mostly. His eyelids. Knees. And on his feet. Which we just noticed recently has spread more on his feet.
More prone to skin cancer when you have it. Hes full mexican. So its very noticeable on him. I believe he sees a dermatologist once a year to show him all these new moles that pop up on his back.
My little sister had it on her face when she was maybe 3 or 4 yrs old. My stepmom took her to a dermatologist and it didn't spread. I'm not sure now what treatment she was given.
She wasn't probably given a treatment, PP. she probably just had segmental vitiligo, as treatments that young tend to have some not nice side effects and more doctors won't do anything until kids are older. Do you know what kind you have OP, or at least what kind was in your family? Because it's not a case of "all turn white one day" it can very well be "I have white patches on left leg". It depends on the type.

Honestly, other than some risks associated with sight and skin cancer (which is purely just because of the paleness), vitiligo is no big deal.
