This is bugging me
I asked to leave work 1 1/2 early to take my SS to a dentist appointment. IF my SO couldn't get out of school to pick him up in time. My SO was in school 65 miles from where his sons school is and I work 17 miles from his sons school. It was only if he couldn't make it in time. My supervisor said "His problems aren't your problems! He will have to figure it out." His (practically husbands) problems aren't my problems? Pfft. Anyway she then said that I might as well call in like S (the other girl I work with). I responded saying I wouldn't call out to miss an entire day just to leave an hour and a half early.

Like your supervisor said, her problems aren't your problems ? sometimes you just have to call out. Dealing with that is a part of being the boss.

I have been in a bind before with having to have dd at home with no childcare and bosses say "oh well". Sucks but you can call out.

@ray I think pp was telling you to take her advice. Her (your boss) problems aren't your problems. If she's mad that her problem. She's a boss. She better get used to situations coming up.

Ok ok. Thanks for explaining lol I get it, and I won't stress about it as much next time. I gotta do what I gotta do, my family comes first. I'm in the process of finding a new job. She is seriously hostile at times and I wish I didn't have to interact with her.

Ohhh I see. Well your husbands issues are yours too. My husband had a boss say that. My husband replied with " well my wife's problem is my problem". But this is tough on the boss's end.

Yeah I totally understand from a supervisors perception. I've been a management before. But if I didn't call out or leave early I would have worked 6 days and ended up with 7 hours of overtime. When she complained so much about overtime lol then tells me I can't leave 1 1/2 hr early.

And people wonder why employees are so unhappy?! I've only had to call out a few times, and my boss and coworkers didn't say anything but "hope (whoever is sick) feels better," even if it puts the office in a bind.

Iv been a shift supervisor and a store manager most of my working life. Yes its a stressful job but thats why you get that little bit more $$ than everyone else. If someone was calling in sick all the time then yes Id get pissed off esp if it was last min all the time. BUT Id sit them down and talk it out. Look at why it was always going on, things we could work on to help them etc. Thats your job as a manager! YOU MANAGE PEOPLE and situations!! All my staff knew they could call me if they needed help. I had people with PTSD who would work amazing for wks on end then have super bad days and couldn't work. We had plans in place to help them. Same with working mums and dads. If kids were sick or had appts etc we would plan as far ahead as we could and sort out shifts etc. For all the unplanned stuff you deal with it on the fly! Yer it can be hard but once you have a system in place that your staff understand and agree with then things are so much better! I had staff from other shops begging to work with me and change shops just to be with me because I supported them and they me!

I have no problem calling out as long as I gave the time to cover it. Especially if my boss is being a batch. Lol.
