I'm sitting at a park crying my eyes out. I can't deal with this disrespect from SS6 literally all of the time.

I'm so heartbroken. I can't believe that my own husband, my best friend, my everything would tell me that this is all my fault that his kid is this way. That his mom left him and it's my fault for not parenting him the way that I do our DS. And in front of SS DH backs him up and not me, thus making this all okay.

I was with you until you told a 6 year old he ruined your family..
No, he should not be allowed to disrespect you. Your husband needs to step up and be a damn dad, not a buddy.. Your MIL needs to mind her own damn business.. She is not the parent, you and your husband are..
Your SS obviously needs some discipline, and a reality check about his actions.. Again though you shouldn't have yelled that he ruined your family.. He didn't.. His father, and your MIL are.. He's 6.. A kid.. He will get away with what he's been taught he can.. Again, you shouldn't have to put up with it, and if your husband won't change your son will grow up the exact same way..
Put the blame where it belongs..

You're right. I was emotional and I shouldn't have said it.

Both DH and MIL are out of line. Children need to be taught how to respect their elders and they're failing the child miserably. It's time you put your foot down. Either they want you to just be a "stepmom" which means you can disengage, or they want you to be a participating parent and start to discipline this child before he gets out of control.

@Christinsey is 100% right in everything she said.
I would be repeating her comment to your husband as if they are your own words. He needs to grow up...
You need to DEMAND respect and be strict... she the SS who is boss (not in a nasty way but in a motherly way) tell your husband if you are his mother then you will treat him as such and dont ever.... EVER go against your parenting of this boy.. dont EVER say you cant do that because you "just" a step mum. Sounds like your husband needs to be put in his place just as much as the 6yr old.

I just went through some old posts because I'm looking for the timeframe I b****ed about Hex's mom. We switched phones so we lost all the old text messages. We need it for our court statement for Grandparents Rights Court this Friday.
Anyways, it's crazy to see how things have gone and changed over the course of a year.
My attitude has gotten worse. I'm bitter and cynical and Dh and I fight because he still says I'm obligated to put up with s*** because "We signed the marriage papers." ?
And yes we did counseling and I quit because Dh constantly told me all of our problems are all my fault and I'M the one who messed SS up so bad! ?
I still love Dh. I do wanna be with him. But looking back on this post made me realize that s*** isn't changing all that much.
At least Mil is almost always completely out of my business or completely on my side now.
This year is going to be different. This year I'm taking control of my life and making the changes I need to in order to better myself. I am going to take charge of this house (Mil's a hoarder and it's a freaking mess, more on that later) and get this family on the track to success.

"Not my kid, not my problem."
That's the phrase my DH and Hex used when I tried to get too involved with SD. So that's the phrase that *I* use when they want me to babysit or drop all my plans so SD can come over while DH is at work etc.
Throw what THEY say right back into their faces-if they tell you that you're not SS's mother, then they treat you like crap because he won't listen-"Like YOU said, I'm not his mother. I don't have to deal with this crap. He's your kid. You deal with it."
I'm so sorry DuH and MIL are treating you like crap. I hope that they see how horrible they are to you in regards to SS, and that they change.
If they don't change how they treat you, I must suggest leaving, for your own safety. That sounds like Emotional Abuse from your DuH.
My SIL is going through Emotional Abuse from her husband and she is depressed and suicidal but still won't leave him. We've told her that we have a room here for her, but we do live a little over an hour away from her.

@Spring this post is a year old. I was just looking back on it because I was going through old posts.
Mil is treating me quite well for the most part. Even Dh is much better but I'm blown away that we STILL argue about the same bs we did over a year ago.
S*** is going to change this year!

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s the only thing that you can change is yourself. Everyone else has the right to change or not change for themselves, and often times they see nothing wrong with how things are. If they did they would’ve initiated a change of their own.
