Why would you do an amnio?

I don't understand. Their lungs may not fully developed until closer to 40wks... So why are they so concerned?

Lungs are actually developed a bit earlier than 40 weeks. My second child was born at 34 weeks and his lungs worked fine didn't need oxygen. The doctor told me if you are 32 weeks lungs may not be ready and you need steroid shots, at 33 weeks it could go either way and shots are recommended and at 34 weeks the lungs are generally good. Seems way early but I got a handsome little man that proves it =) my cousins baby also born at 34 or really a few days earlier than that was the same way lungs were fine.

Amnio why??

Do you have complications that make it necessary to deliver early. My doctor is pretty consistent in saying 38 weeks if at all possible although if the risk outweigh the benefits then you do what you need. Good luck it is always scary to have a early baby and there are never guarantees when they come early.

Type 2 diabetic. So baby has to come esrly. How early depends on if placenta is aging too quickly (which is common for diabetic) and the sign for that is if i start going low with no changes to insulin or diet. Also with my history i have had it happen early and he wants to catch it before it happens,

Yes at 36 weeks the lungs have a high enough chance to be ready but our hospitals like most in country have changed their rules about full term from 37 to 39 weeks and unless its a bigger er our hospitals will not allow drs to induce or early c secs before 39 weeks without an amnio.

I have also had a 9lber at 36 weeks and tose bigger babies are not much healthier tgen the smaller ones so he wants to try to prevent bigger sizes wich they put alot more weight on at end of time.

I am type 2 as well and I will be scheduled at 38 weeks unless there are other complications. I hadn't heard of the aging placenta I will definitely talk to my doctor. Good luck with your little one and hopefully you can avoid any major complications.

Yes with a couple of my kids i had my blood sugars start going low in their own no change in diet or food. And dr said thats a sign ti get baby out. But keep in mind this is #8 it was with like #5 it started doing it.
