It's a disease that's transferred through touch. It's kids that get it most of the time, although adults can sometimes get it. You'll mainly see it in kindergarten, playgroups and some of the young infant classes (up to age 9). It's because these particular groups aren't good with hand hygiene etc and tend to pick and then touch other things ie toys. It's like small blisters that appear on the hands feet and mouth, but don't expect to see them exclusively in those areas. In some cases the blisters can be on other parts or cover the whole body. Cases range from the mild (a few blisters but no itch) to the severe (blisters all over, in the mouth etc. Really painful and difficulty eating/drinking).
Most of the time there's little they can do. Antibiotics are no use for it, so it has to just run its course. In the severe case numbing gels or creams may be provided to help. Sometime a temperature can also occur with hfm

My son caught this at 6 months. It started with a high temp of 104.
2 days later he had the blisters that lasted 4 to 5 days. It was scary, I've never heard of it before.

My dd caught it a few days before I found out I was pregnant. Of course all the websites were saying for her to avoid contact with pregnant women. It's risky in the first trimester. So I had to have a titer drawn to make sure I had past exposure. It's not really anything major. Just a nasty virus that leaves sores in their mouth and a rash.

My son got it really bad - feet literally all blistered and a few in mouth and hands. Picked it up from a playgroup. Then I caught it too. Makes you feel sick as well as blisters. Know others who've had mild case though and it's not been too big a deal. My sons case was awful tho.

My neighbors kids have it right now! They have blisters in their mouth and on their feet and hands and legs.

My son had it 4-5 days and because he took a bink at the time, the moisture made it turn into impetigo which is much worse and highly contagious. I took him to the doctor before it turned into impetigo they told me it was nothing, two days later impetigo diagnosed at the same clinic. I've heard of several kids that lose their fingernails or toenails due to hfm as well. My ds didn't.
