Yes it depends on it being wood or plastic. I never cut any raw meat on my wood one. And I just rinse it with hot water. No soaps. And my plastic one I'll put in the dish washer.

I let it soak in hot water for a few minutes before I wash it depending what I used the cutting board for.

Ya just mainly fruits and veggies. Mine always crack and I just bought a new one I'm trying to make last for awhile.
