Hyperthyroid and joint swelling/pain

Hyperthyroid and joint swelling/pain

Does anyone have experience with hyperthyroidism? I was just diagnosed and got more extensive blood work done late last week. (Waiting on more results). Well a few days later I started having some joint swelling and pain. I'm wondering if the two are related. I have a call into my dr already so just waiting to hear bank from her. Just wanted to know if anyone knows anything about it

I have hypothyroidism. I don't have the joint swelling, my body just aches and feels really heavy and tired when my medication is off.

I know that joint swelling can happen especially if your newly diagnosed and haven't started treatment unfortunately I wish I could be more help to you. Hopefully your doctor will give you more answers.

I'm sorry I just reread your post and you have hyperthyroidism. I don't have any experience with that I have hypo. But I know having thyroid problems suck and I hope your doctor can give you some final answers and get you to feeling better soon.

I have Hashimotos Thyroiditis (Hypothyroidism). I was diagnosed almost 6 years ago after my 2nd son was born.

I'm not sure if age factors anything in as far as the differential issues with the symptoms.

I'm 32yrs old. I've never had joint pain/swelling. I do notice a BIG difference if I'm not taking my meds (Synthroid). Most people have problems with gaining weight. But, I'm actually on the small side. I'm hate it too!

A few symptoms I have without my meds are extreme fatigue, mood swings (mostly depression), brittle/dry hair, thinning hair that falls out , dry skin, excessive sleeping, ect...

It's a horrible autoimmune disorder. They had put me on every antidepressant known to man before they discovered it was actually hypothyroidism causing my problems. My biggest issue is I felt like I could sleep my whole life away and I never had any energy. Also I have absolutely no appetite. (I was just placed on meds for that as well).

I know the struggle all to well. I hope you feel better soon. I truly do.?

Thanks ladies. I haven't started any type of treatment yet as I'm still waiting for results. Also I'm getting an ultrasound of my thyroid tomorrow cause of what the called a "neck mass" or enlarged thyroid. I appreciate your kind words very much. Hopefully I have some answers by the end of the week. My symptoms are lose of weight. Like 25-30lbs in a few months and swelling of my thyroid. Other then that I was feeling ok. But 2 days after being told I was hyperthyroid my joints ache and are slightly swollen.

I have hashimoto's as well, before they started regulating my medication my joints always hurt. When we lived upstairs I'd try not to leave the apartment because walking up and down hurt my knees so bad. Once you get started on treatment it gets a lot better.

My husband has Graves disease. He just all around feels crappy. He hasn't complained about joint pain in particular but he definitely feels achy

Hashimotos and hypothyroidism are the exact opposite of what you have OP, so their advice really doesn't apply to you.

Oh, I apologize. PP is right. I have Hypo and you have Hyper. That is two different disorders. I'm so sincerely sorry. I must have misread your post hun.

My sister on the other hand does have hyperthyroidism (and Graves Disease). She would know more than I do about what your going through.

I feel so silly. Sorry again for giving you the wrong info. And thanks @BlueChocolate for bringing that to my attention. I would never personally do that. ?

Old thread but I was searching for hyperthyroidism and brought me here.

I was recently diagnosed as well. My first sign was losing almost 25 lbs within 3 months. I have heart palpitations but worse during night. I get hot flashes very easily and sometimes have trouble sleeping. My joints don't hurt but when I work out, I do feel like they hurt more than they should.

Op may I ask if they're going to put you on any meds?
