Ear infections

Ugh my 3 year old currently has his 3rd ear infection in a little over a month. 3rd antibiotic too. If he's not cleared by 1/25 we will be talking tubes. His dad always had infections and had tubes placed as a kid. Anyone had their kid have tubes? What's the surgery like? Recovery time and pain levels??

My sister had them. Kids usually bounce back from them relatively fast with only minor discomfort.

My now 7 yo, had them put in when he was 22 months old. Leading up to the surgery he had 12 months of back to back double ear infections.

The surgery itself was fairly easy. They let me go into the operating room and sit with him until they put him under. I sang to him while they put the mask over his face. Then they came to get me when he was in recovery. I don't remember how long it was, but I remember being surprised about how quickly it went. Recovery was rough for a few minutes, but from the anesthesia. After about 24 hours he was back to his regular self. They fell out on their own after about 10-13 months and he never needed more. He had one other ear infection after they fell out but it went away without antibiotics because he was much older.

Yes my son did. Very simple procedure, he was back at daycare the next day. Hasn't had an infection in over 2 years and his tubes recently fell out on their own.

I didn't know they could fall out on their own that's weird. I think I'm a little more worried cause he's 3 and understands more what going on. Praying that his recheck appt he's ok

Yes. As the ear canal grows into proper position, they fall out. You won't notice.

My older 2 had tubes, my son just got his second set in July. My oldest did so much better after getting hers, but my son not so much. His ended up being his tonsils and adenoids. But after he got his second set he did so much better too.

Surgery is quick and easy, they get to go home the same day. Recovery time is so fast, that night they were running around and playing.

My son constantly had ear infections. He probably got them at least once a month, if not more until he was 6 months old. He finally was able to get his ear tubes put in and it was the best thing ever. He's now 2.5 and hasn't had an ear infection since then.

I've had them 3 times and my 10 year old brother has had them 2 now. Its the most simple procedure that only takes a few minutes with minimal to no pain. I would do it ten times over. The first time with my brother he was 2 and it didn't eve phase him at all.
