My mum does/did this with my children's photos and with my brothers when he sends her photos too. I've just straight out told her she shouldn't really post other people's photos on FB and it's ok to post her own photos. She was a bit niggly about it but now understands and if I txt her a particularly nice photo she will ask if she can post it. Just try being straight up and not making a big deal out of it. She might not like it but she will get over it.
Just tell her you aren't comfortable with pictures of your toddler online BECAUSE of... and then whatever your reasons are. Maybe tell her you understand she's excited but it makes you uncomfortable. If she knows why, it may not feel like such a personal attack? You could also do a picture album for a Christmas gift so she has all the pictures in one place to cherish and show off to her friends :) good luck, I hope it goes well!
Just be straight forward. Tell her with all the craziness in the world these days and you can never really trust what the Internet does with your photos that you don't want her posting them. Tell her that's why you and your hobby do not just post them yourself bc it makes you very uncomfortable knowing complete strangers can see your child. She should be ok with this and she has no choice but to honor your wishes if she wants photos of your child in the future. She may even be happy knowing why she hasn't been getting as many as she was and maybe even be happy to know that you will send more to her as long as they don't end up on Facebook. I wouldn't look into this as a bigger issue than it needs to be or it will turn into one. Good luck.
When someone else can't complete the job, do it yourself. Feelings will heal but bitterness will stain your relationship for a lifetime. Even if you send a text keep it short, honest and sweet.
"Hey MIL,
We really want to keep (toddler) off of social media bc of the rise of online predators and people who steal pictures so pictures I share with you I do not want to go on fb. Thank you so much for understanding we are all keeping (toddler) safe.
Thanks so much ladies! I hope that she doesn't take it the wrong way. But if she does, oh well I guess! I just want her to respect my boundaries and she can't do that if she doesn't know what they are (:
