Best birthing class for a home water birth?

Best birthing class for a home water birth?

For those of you who have already experienced a natural, uneducated birth what childbirth class did you find helpful? I had originally signed up for a Bradley method class, but when I mentioned it to my midwife today, she said that it's really geared more towards women who are trying to have a natural birth in a hospital setting. Since then I have started looking into hypnobirthing as an alternative to the Bradley method course. Just curious what others have found helpful?

I really just read a lot of homebirth stories and did what I could to ensure I believed in my body. I listened to it through labor, moved how I wanted, etc.

I did end up having a very loooooong labor & transfer at 9.5 cm hour 44 bc I was just exhausted and discouraged. The change was enough for me to kind of relax (transferring to our vbac ban hospital meant there was an end in sight which I had lost) and I delivered in the hall before they could get me to the OR for a repeat.

Looking back, in that final hour more than anything I needed my husbands encouragement. He was great but at that time I kinda needed him in my face. Lol.

This time he's ready... hopefully it won't take AS long though. lol

I read a lot of books from the library (13) and watched videos.

I'm having a private class from a doula (not "my" doula). It's $70 for me and my SO for a 2hr class and we will see if we need more. I read a couple books, watched lots of videos, and am trusting that my body will know what my mind doesn't. Also, my midwife is pretty excellent.

My husband though, he needs it! He's wonderful, but really has no clue what's gonna happen, and what he will need to do!

I had an un-medicated vaginal birth with my first daughter (pregnant now with daughter #2) and we took the hospital's Lamaze childbirth class (6 weeks long) and the Bradley Method classes (12 weeks long). We loved the Bradley Method - my husband felt empowered and we made an awesome birthing team (which is what the BM teaches) - I haven't taken Hypnobirthing but I have heard good things about that as well. I think no matter what you choose, educating yourself and your support team is a win win win!!

I didn't find the Bradley classes to be hospital oriented. Sure, there were aspects that talked about the hospital, but the bulk of the classes are about nutrition, natural pain relief, relaxation techniques, etc. Those are universal whether you're in the hospital or at home. I was planning a home birth but transferred after 26 hours, and it was actually helpful to have learned a little about what the hospital environment would be like.

I was thinking that even if the Bradley method instructor does focus somewhat on the hospital, it would be really nice to have that information and if I do end up needing to be transferred! I'm excited, our class starts tomorrow(-:
