Hummus a no-go while pregnant?
Hummus a no-go while pregnant?
I heard that recently, please tell me that's not true! I eat hummus almost every day. Wich Which is about the only thing I can stomach lately and I always get a sub with hummus. Apparently there is a risk due to Listeria? Has anyone else heard that? Do you eat hummus still?

I'm pretty sure it's just homemade .. or raw ... I think if you eat the more processed stuff it's ok.. which of course I prefer homemade.

I've never heard of this... Homemade would still be made
With cooked garbanzo beans so...?

Beans are a great source of protein and nutrients while pregnant. There should be nothing in hummus that carries the risk of lusteria. We always make our own and it is literally a few ingredients: garbanzo beans, tahini, garlic, olive oil, water, salt and lemon juice. Nothing that should cause alarm.

I have never heard of this. Hummus is my go to snack and I eat some almost everyday.

Yeah, I have made my own before too. I make a lemon dill hummus that's really yummy? That makes me feel better that y'all haven't heard of that, because maybe it's not true then. I eat it all the time and I'm vegan, so it's one of my protein sources that I rely on lol

I've never heard of that! There are no raw ingredients so idk how that could be. I ate it almost daily with my first, it's such a healthy, high protein snack!!

There was a recall for sabra hummus not too long ago due to listeria.

If you eat it regularly before baby you should be fine not something you wanna try prego

There's been a recall in brands like Sabre for listeria.
Hummus is really easy to make at home though. You just need canned garbanzo beans and whatever seasonings and extras you want in it. Drain the beans and throw in a blender to blend till smooth. :)

There is a risk of listeria in store bought hummus as a couple previous posters said. I think Sabra has had one or two listeria recalls in the last few years. It would likely be from the equipment used to make and then package the hummus. I have eaten some store bought hummus from a small local brand in my city, but I also make it myself. Had some for breakfast this morning. There is no/super low risk with homemade hummus for listeria as far as I know. Rinse the rind of your lemon well before cutting in to it for juicing though.

I do all the time but I make it. It's actually really easy and makes a big batch if you want to try.

There's a listeria risk in so many foods. I eat hummus, lunchmeat, and sushi this go round.

It's the castor oil in the hummus. Hummus has very simple ingredients and the oil is the only bad part about it. If you make it at home try using a different oil like olive oil and you should be A-ok ??

We can get freaked out about eating anything. Hummus is nearly a daily go to for me. I like to make my own because most store brands have "natural flavor" which is a cover for msg, and canola oil, which wreaks havoc on the digestive and neurological systems.
