Ugh I'm so sorry. What a stupid woman. I don't care who you are or how well you know the mother, you never give a child food without checking with the mother first. You never know if a child is allergic to something and in this case she stole a precious moment from you. You should have had the choice of what your baby tried first and when they got to try it. You had the right to be the one giving baby his first food. Please don't blame yourself. Yes maybe you should have followed her or asked her to keep your baby with you, but you trusted her in that moment. Take it as a learning experience. She isn't family, and has no real ties to your baby. Don't bring baby around her anymore.
I'd be livid too. However, she probably didn't know how you felt about it. That's complicated. As far as allergies, you'll notice symptoms within the hour. Most food allergies start with itching skin, hives, swelling lips or tongue, etc. The more serious sign is the tongue or throat swelling to the point of not breathing. Then you start to turn blue and purple. I'm sure your LO is fine but keep an eye on them. I'm sorry about what happened though :(
I know how you feel never experienced it but my husband side of the family would try to give my baby food behind my back even tho I told them not to! I was heated also
I've stressed to my mom and dad SO much that they are not to give even the littlest bite to my DS before I do at 6 months. This is so different to them because my sisters kids all started baby food around 3 months. I've told them that if they give any food to him they will never watch him without my supervision again. I'm always in the house with them just not always the same room. I'm so sorry she stole that experience from you. I would be devastated as well.
I am definitely not letting her anywhere around my son again. She tried telling me it was okay I needed to start feeding him at 3 months and I needed to give him water. So I realize that's just what she knew from raising her own kids 20 years ago and it is different than now. I don't expect her to be completely up to date with everything that has changed. I know she probably didn't realize I wasn't gonna feed him but he still isn't related to her and she shouldn't have assumed anything.
It was some Gerber carrots so he more than likely isn't allergic it's just the thought.

That is so wrong. Why don't ppl ask first? Not just open gut but even if you were feeding him what if he had an allergy.
I would be angry that she did and that she stole your moment
