Please help me from crying.
Please help me from crying.
So we got our sons new car seat yesterday. I was gonna use it today but I couldn't figure out how to route the seat belt instead of the latch. We needed to leave soon so I just said to forget it and we'll use the infant seat today and I can figure it out later. Well my husband came out and was trying to borrow latch anchors but I told him you can't do that. Neither the car or car seat okays it. I even showed him in the manuals. He was saying we should do it just this once because he's a safe driver. I don't care about his driving its other people on the road I worry about. Even once I don't want risk it. Especially where we live. I asked him multiple times to not worry about it and we will just use the infant seat. Then he goes off all mad saying he should have never bought it if we weren't gonna use it and how I just want everything to go my way and if not I get mad and how I shouldn't go by the rules all the time and relax on things and how I just throw it in his face what the manuals say. I just want my son to be safe. If that makes me the bad person then I'll take it. Sure the car seat fits but should it go there no. Now I feel like completely crap because he is mad at me for trying to be safe. He doesn't research car seat safety or anything for that matter yet questions me when I have looked everything up and learned what's safe and not. He asks why he can't put the seat like that then gets offended when I show him why.

Sounds like someone pissed in his Cheerios this morning.

Do you need help figuring out how to route the seatbelt through?
I'm sure if you posted pictures here or what seat you have we'd be more than willing to help.

I'm a little confused. What do you mean by borrow latch anchors? Does your car not have the latch system?
deleted-user·
@pp they're probably trying to install the seat in the middle, some cars don't have middle latch anchors so in some cases manufacturers allowed you to "borrow" one anchor from the passenger seats
deleted-user·
I was under the impression that it was never ok to borrow anchors?

Thanks @kdewy!

You did the right thing and should not be upset about it. He is the one that needs to realize he was wrong. It doesn't matter if you are the best driver, accidents happen everyday.
Like pp's said, maybe we can help you with the installation.
Eta: what is the make and model of your vehicle? I have a latch manual and can look up if you can use the anchors from the other seats.

Pp do you really need to take a seat... Do you realize how disrespectful that is? Op is clearly upset and frustrated and sad and you want to sit around and wait around to see if drama will happen over op sadness? Go take a seat somewhere else not pry on OP sadness.
Op when you calm down just talk to your husband about why car seats are important and show how the wrong seat or wrong installation can effect the seat in an accident. He can't be mad about keeping the baby safe actually I'm sure he doesn't want to hurt the baby he doesn't understand how and why the car seat is so important. Just show him all the info you can and he will understand

Honestly don't even stress it. Just put your little one in his infant seat and go to the nearest fire department or police station along with the new seat. Call first. Where I'm from they usually have someone to install them.My husband threw a fit once because I wanted the chest clip on her chest and not on her stomach-.- he claimed it bothered her... I'd rather it bother her on her chest than it injure her on her stomach. You did the right thing by voicing your opinion. He will get over it.

@pp most fire departments/ police stations don't have certified car seat techs.
There's websites you can go to find certified techs in your area

I'm not home with the car seat right now and probably won't be until later today. I was just gonna use the drive today to read up on the seat because I just glanced earlier. I was trying to put it in a 2015 F 150 crew cab and the seat is an extend 2 fit.
I have and still try to show him why it can't be done certain ways but he just doesn't want to read or watch it. If I send him links he won't look at them. Just says okay he will do it my way. I explain to him why you can't forward face a four month and shouldn't until two at that or feed a three month old hot fries. I mean I know he says things sometimes as a joke but I don't like to play around with our sons safety and health.

If the car seat manual states not to install the car seat in the middle because the anchors are too far apart (in your case, over 25") then use the seat belt in the center position. You can install it in the center if seat manufacturer's instructions permit use with the anchor spacing stated.
If you really want to use the lower anchors, install the car seat in one of the outboard positions.
Do you know if your car seat has a lock-off?
And I agree with pp, look up local car seat technicians. There may be some at the police / fire department and county health offices, safercar.gov

Thank you pp that's exactly how I feel and I wish he would understand that.
And thank you @amunoz I knew it wouldn't go lol I was planning on using the belt just didn't know how to get it through the car seat itself.

Thanks for the link! I sent to my sister. She's had a real PITA getting her son's car seats in their vehicles. She and her husband are both tall and the infant seat impedes on them adjusting the driver's seat safely. They currently have him on the passenger side and if they all go out together, one drives and the other sits in back with the baby.

Can you you tube how to install the car seat x

Now my husband and my grandma are both teaming up on me telling me I should give him food because...wait for it..."we all had food this young and we are fine" and that its okay to not use car seats perfectly because..."I had a car seat when I was little but I didn't use it"
Thank god nothing happened to us but what about the people something did happen to?
I honestly don't even know what to say.
How do you get someone to understand how that is bad when they won't even read anything stating why.
They both asked me to show them why it's wrong yet will NOT read anything I show them. Wtf.
Eta. I was mad typing this and forgot that my grandma also said I should give my son water because he "needs" it.
My son is barely 4 months old. He doesn't need water nor food. All he needs it breastmilk.

I would piss off my husband a million times if it meant protecting my children. That's just life. Children are at the top of the totem pole. I don't compromise on safety either. If it was something that didn't have potential consequences that included injury and death, sure. He may be the world's safest driver but he shares the road with the world's worst drivers, people driving without licenses, and drunk drivers; all of which he has no control over.
It sounds like he's just pitching a fit because he didn't get his way on something. It's unfortunate whenever an argument happens. I hate when my DH is upset at me. But it's easier to forgive myself for making him irritated than it is for letting something happen to my babies just because I didn't want him to be pissy.

Oh I have but I guess it goes in one side and out the other because I have to keep telling them.
I definitely agree I need to get my husband on board. It makes me so frustrated he won't even listen to what I have to say though. I'm working on it.

If they won't listen to reason I honestly would tell them off. Just because they don't give a damn about your son's health and well being, doesn't mean your not going go.
And my sisters ex used the whole "oh I'm a good driver and I don't need insurance" bs and low and behold he was t-bone going threw an intersection by someone not paying attention. Carseat safety isn't an option. Yours son's life isn't your SO's to so carelessly endanger.
