Why lie to them I think it's dumb to lie and try to take someone's kid away for no reason if your friend has someone that is lying about her she might need proof. What's the lie?
Last year, someone made a false claim on us. They lived below us and were getting evicted and anyways they got crazy and decided to call a fake claim. Nothing happened really. Someone came to check/talk to me and basically said right away they could tell it was a False claim.
But it's a horrible thing to make a fake claim and I'm sorry your friend is dealing with that. I have horrible anxiety now that what if some other crazy person makes a false claim etc it's been a full year now and I haven't really gotten over that. It's an awful feeling but yeah there's nothing for her to worry about; they should see it's unfounded.
I don't think they can get in trouble but it will cause trouble for the person they are reporting. They will open a case and investigate. While they didn't do anything wrong it's a huge stressful situation. If there is nothing going on it should be over and closed quick. But that's also depending what the false accusations are. If it's about sexual abuse it can turn into a traumatic experience for both child and parent. Also the reason they can't get in trouble is if that person sticks to her or his story and felt the kids were truly Being abused and neglected. Its basically your word over theirs.
She's not sure of the lie. Her mom just wants to take my friends son away and placed with her. So she is calling cps and trying to get cops to follow them. I told her unless something was happening there was nothing she should worry about but understandably she is.
So the grandma is calling the cops and cps. I'll also assume she's giving her name every time she calls. That way she has a in with cps and in her mind possibly temporary custody for her calling. No they will put two and two together. She's not the first or last grandparent to pull this type of crap. If nothing is going on theres nothing to worry about. They will keep record of who's reporting and know this person reporting is just trying to stir the pot.

Yes pretty much. It's just a really screwed up situation honestly. I know she hasn't done anything wrong because she is an awesome mother. It's sad because her mom didn't want anything to do with her and her son and actually disowned her once she found out she was pregnant. My friend tried to let them be in his life and fix things once he was born and were doing okay until this happened.
It's hard to prove the person lied though. There are cases where the caller is genuinely concerned and thinks something is going on, and then it turns out they're wrong. So that's a fine line between punishing people who knowingly do it and those who were wrong about their suspicions and called out of real concern.
It depends on the state too. I had an aunt call out of spite from another state after i moved to georgia from ohio. She was mad because when i was moving i saw her beat my cousin who has downsyndrome and i told her off. She left bruises on him amd everything. Well my mother called cps on her and my aunt blamed me for it and made a false claim on me. She didnt even know our address so the agency had to track us down and showed up on christmas eve. Of course everything was unfounded and they knew ot would be cause they said how would someone know the conditions of the house if they didnt even know where we lived. I called the sheriff's department to ask what my options were. They sent someone out to talk to me and look over the paperwork. The officer said that in Georgia it's called making false reports with malicious intent and that they can persue charges against whoever called. I went ahead and filed a report and they were able to trace the number the call was made from to my aunt and her daughter. They were charged and fined $500 each. They could have faced jail time but since they were states away the judge went easy on them and said if it happened again he would throw the book at them. Serves them right for trying to ruin my son's first Christmas.
Omg this whole situation is incredibly sad. I hope that doesn't happen to your friend from her own mother. Just tell your friend to make sure she keeps anything from her mother that could be used as evidence of any wrong doing. So sorry she may have to go thru this hopefully that's not the case and nothing ever happens

Yes that's illegal. They won't take the child away if your accusations are false. That's why they investigate.
