How do you get your lo to open their mouth bigger? I've tried the finger technique by pulling down to open and my son either pulls away after and latches on just my nipple or I just can't pull it down because he's got milk and its slippery. He just doesn't like to open his mouth wide enough and likes to also curl his bottom lip in. I love breastfeeding and I hate that he's starting this. It takes a while to get him latched properly and all the while he gets angrier. He's just over 3 weeks old btw.

The same thing was happening to me, but my LC gave me a nipple shield after we tried off and on for hours to fix a shallow latch. She said it would teach her how to open wide. I stopped using it after about two weeks, and she was a pro. My LO is almost 7 weeks now and we haven't had any more issues.

Instead of bringing breast to bottle bring baby to breast. Meaning hold baby away and when he/she opens mouth wide bring head forward to latch. It's easier said than done however. Good luck

My lo does this too so I've resorted to exclusively pumping but it breaks my heart not to be able to bf would love some advice to.. Tried the nipple shield and it didn't work for my lo ?

Bring your nipple to the top of lo mouth and when lo open his mouth put your nipple in. Tilt his head back a little.

I had problems initially because my baby was pretty small and she had problems with getting my nipple in her mouth. I used the Medela shields for the first few weeks (the lactation nurse in the hospital recommend me to use it) and now my girl is latching on without any problems ☺ I'm not sure if it will help if the problem is with not opening mouth, in my case her mouth were just too small, but it might be something worth looking into.

I'm wondering if this would cause it but I was looking in the mirror and swear my nipples are different sizes. Like I know one boob is bigger than the other but it looks like my entire nipple is bigger than the other.
