Car seat help!!
I am so confused and lost. My son is too small for his car seat now and we got him a new one yesterday, its a high back booster but i have been reading it is for foreward facing (or can it be used to rear face?). I just thought it would be ok cause it was for 30lb+. At his 9 month check up my son was 20lbs and 28in. How do i know a car seat is for rear facing? I have read car seat descriptions from diffrent brands buy they have a rear facing weight max and a foreward facing weight max so which is the right one? What do i look for to know its for rear facing? I havent put him in his new seat yet or even opened the packaging so i will be able to return. I am so lost. ?

Boosters are for kids around age 4.
The seat will say right on the package if it has limits for rear facing then those can be used for rear facing and for the time you are doing that you use those limits. When your child out grows those you move to forward facing limits using the seat forward facing.
I have never seen a booster seat meant for anything but forward facing but never use a seat of any sort that your child is too small for

Return the seat, you won't need it for a while. You need a convertible seat put in rearfacing. Our 2.5 year old is still in a rearfacing convertible seat, so if you find the right one with good weight/height limits it should last a while.
I also agree with going onto "car seats for the littles" blog! They have lots of good info!

So if it says rear facing 5-40lbs forward facing 20-65lbs, it means you can only use it rear facing until your child is 20lbs but it's safe to use rearfacing to 40lbs. At 65lbs you would need to get a different seat(child would most likely be able to move into a booster seat at this point).
Seats also have height restrictions for rear and forward facing just FYI.

Omg people. Ok, if your child is of LEGAL age and you so choose to forward face, the minimum weight they can be is 20 pounds. Several states have made it the law that they must rear face until 2, the longer you go the better. Until 4 is ideal.
For the rear facing, it is saying that the minimum weight is 5 pounds, the maximum is 40 pounds to safely rear face in that seat.
Check out Car Seats for the Littles on Facebook, they also have a website. It's run by certified car seat techs from across the country. You can give them your vehicle information, budget and your child's size/age and they will recommend the best seat for you.

Get a convertible car seat. I have the evenflo tribute that's $55-$65 at Kmart. I use it rear facing for my preemie and it's super safe. It also goes forward facing and my small now four year old fits in it as well.

Def look at Graco contender, the Facebook page is great for helping. Your child needs to be rear facing!

I just bought the graco contender! I bought it from Amazon for $130. I have a picture up if you'd like to see what a baby looks like in it lol. I love it. It's a great car seat. Easy to install, and so comfy for the kiddos. It can rearface for a long time as well as forward face for a long time too when your baby gets to that point. I highly recommend it. It rearfaces to 40lbs.
Idk what the heck voodoo is talking about but she's wrong. If it's rearfacing from 5-40lbs, you can rearface until 40lbs. If it's forward facing 20-65lbs, the lowest you can forward face is 20lbs but that is definitely not recommended.
