Type 2 Diabetes in 3rd Trimester

Type 2 Diabetes in 3rd Trimester

Hello i am 32 weeks and this is my first pregnancy. I had type 2 diabetes before i was pregnant, in the 1st and 2nd trimesters i controlled my blood sugar very well so far only gained 11 lbs and my Non-stress tests come out very good. Now that i started the 3rd trimester i still do good but at times it just gets higher than usual, i take 500mg of Metformin, 1 after breakfast and 1 after dinner. Everytime i get higher than 120mg/dl i feel very bad that i let my sugar get so high and worry about the baby (the highest in the 3rd trimester was 153 mg/dl). Should i ask for a higer dosage or change medications? What can i do to control it better?

Stay away from starchy foods such as bread, rice/pasta, potatoes and such also keep your sugar in take down...if you drink tea use honey instead of sugar.. Bananas, pineapple , mango are high in natural sugars so try and stay away from those as well.. Drink green tea with no sugar or anything else in it that should help lower your sugar as well... Good luck

Eat more complex carbs, as opposed to simple carbs (whole wheat vs. white bread for example), anything that is high in fibre slows the "burning" of sugar and will help you avoid the spikes.
