Getting baby to sleep

My three month old daughter usually sleeps so good at night, but during the day I’m losing my damn mind! She refuses to take a nap and that eventually leads to her screaming her head off. What can I try that is maybe unconventional, but works? I’ve done all the basics like putting her down before she’s overly tired, swaddling, rocking, baby wearing... ? she’s constantly fussy and I’m finding myself crying everyday because I’m so frustrated.

I agree w pp, have you tried putting her in the stroller? May be impossible if weather is snowy where you are.

That's normal and it doesn't end soon. My daughter fought sleep like crazy and would literally cry for hours when she was tired. When nothing worked then I'd put her in the ergo carrier and go outside for a walk. She'd fall asleep within a half hour and stayed asleep as long as I stayed outside. She also loved the baby swing. You just have to try different things.

I’ll try going for a walk. I’m in California so that’s doable. The swing only works like 30% of the time. I’m willing to try new things, but I couldn’t think of what else to do.

She used to be so easy to put to sleep until she hit two months and it all went downhill ?I thought it was supposed to get easier.. not harder.

It definitely gets harder to put them to sleep once they are passed the newborn stage. It has to be quiet and she usually needs to be rocked in a certain way for my baby to sleep.

At certain times i would have to walk at fast pace to calm her down and then walk around till she sleeps.

Explore different ways till you find the way she prefers.

To get my daughter to nap I had to sit her on my knee facing me, then lie her back with her head in my cupped hands and sort of rock back and forth so it would sway her up and down. Would take 5/10 min to get her to sleep and my arms would be burning and screaming at me to stop but I’d power through because it’s the only thing that would work for us.

Blackout blinds worked for us.

Nope it doesn't get easier til after 2 years old. Until then you will be hit with sleep regression after sleep regression. The worst one for me was 4 months. They become so aware and fight sleep like crazy. I remember some days when I would literally spend the entire day trying to get my baby to sleep ?

My son ended up diagnosed with silent reflux.

I suggest to any parent who has tried everything to try putting baby on hypoallergenic formula. If breastfeeding, remove all traces of diary, and nuts. It's what saved my relationship with my son. He turned out to have a milk allergy.

He use to cry until he was exhausted. And only then he would crash.

Good luck mama.

Thanks ladies. Maybe I should cut out dairy snd nuts and see if that helps. My mom told me to put the vacuum cleaner on and I was so desperate today I did it and she fell asleep within five minutes. That’s not a very good solution though lol.

Groot.. how long do you let it run? I’m worried it’s going to burn through the carpet or something ?

Vacuum worked for me too, it put my impossible baby to sleep in her chair (NEVER happened) so instead of burning out my vacuum motor, I just put "vaccine white noises" off of YouTube playing. Had the same effect.

Also baby wearing saved my life. Honestly.... and I second going for walks ... where I live it's currently -40C but when it's not cold enough to freeze your balls off, I've always taken my kids for walks and they ALWAYS. sleep and calm down... once with my son I was so desperate o went for a walk at 3am lol you do what you have to to survive

I’m sure there are some vacuum sounds on YouTube .. rather than using an actual vacuum

My DD2 never took naps early on. They were only like 20-30mins tops. It REEEEEALLY sucked. I got a rock n play sleeper thing and tried that for naps but she still fought it. And she hates the swing. I had to hold her all the time. Not very easy with a toddler. She’s almost one now and just started sleeping better over the last 5 months. Hang in there. It’s not like this forever. I promise. You won’t see an 8 year old doing this crap ??

How about a white noise machine? My son is 20 months and has slept with one since birth. We travel with it.

My baby is the same age and I was going through the same thing. Turns out he has a milk allergy (I was EBF). We put him on a hypoallergenic formula and it was like I was given a brand new baby. He doesn’t always cry when he is put down and he actually takes naps now during the day. I knew I could try cutting dairy but I was told it would take up to 2 weeks for all the milk protein to exit my system and I couldn’t bear to watch him in pain any longer.

Car rides! 99% of the time this worked. Some days I would go to get food or coffee (smoothie for ds1) JUST to get Ds2 to take a nap. Lol then drive around in a loop in my area until I reached at least 30 minutes to an hour ?

I’m loving these ideas! I’m so grateful. I use a white sound machine already during the naps and at night. I’ll definitely YouTube vacuum noises instead of burning my carpet ?? I was starting to feel like maybe I’m not cut out to be a mom but I feel a little better now. Hopefully I will feel the same tomorrow.

ETA: we also use the rock n play right now

I’m really debating switching to formula at this point. I have to go back to work beginning of January so she will be supplemented with formula anyways. What kind of hypoallergenic formula do you guys use?

I’m using Nutramigen but if your kiddo doesn’t have a milk allergy I would suggest using regular formula as this stuff is $40 a can. We knew my baby had a milk allergy because we started seeing mucous in his stool and then we started seeing blood.
