Divorced but not separated
Divorced but not separated
I haven't been on in a while and this isn't even pregnancy related but I'm super curious about something and this is the best mix of ladies.

Different strokes for different folks.

Maybe they got a divorce then decided to work things out?

Maybe they're swingers

My parents did the same thing, although I'm not sure if they were still involved sexually. I'd rather not think about it lol. But they were separated for a few years in the same household before they actually moved apart.

My BIL and SIL were separated, not divorced, but still lived together. They said they were doing it for the kids. Then they were in an "open marriage" but now my SIL moved an hour away and left the kids with their dad. I don't know what they plan on doing now.
My in-laws are crazy though. My FIL got married to a girl half his age after knowing her 3 months. Now they live across country from each other and don't talk, they haven't even been married a year lol.

I wouldn't mind that lol. Maybe they cannot live on their own, financially speaking, so they choose to stay together. Maybe they are still really close, just have no romantic feelings, so they feel it's beneficial for the children to stay together. I don't see the harm in it honestly. If my husband and I divorced & stayed living together, we would probably still be getting along then, and we'd probably still have sex ?. Whatever makes you happy!

My sister lives with her ex husband (who has custody) and their 4 boys. It works for them.

My dad and step mom just got remarried after being divorced for the last 10 years. They've been living together for the last 8. Lol

My mum and dad are together but not together. They live together but have separate rooms. They have their separate lives and they have their together lives. When I try to explain it to people they think it's weird but they've been so off and on my whole life it's normal to me.
And yet when I got divorced they disowned me. Go figure?

My parents are still married but live on opposite sides of the house. They don't talk to each other, have separate money, etc. My dad pays all the bills but they have their separate bank accounts and like try to hide how much money they have from each other. My mom has left a few times but always comes back when she realizes how much it costs to rent a place and pay all your own bills. They're both miserable but my dad says he'll never ask her to leave because she's his kids' mom, even though we're all grown.

Growing up my parents would be separated a lot but stilled lived together. They had an on and off relationship while under the same room to have both of them in my life equally. Then my mom kicked my dad out when I was 12.

UPDATE:
Turns out she wanted to go back to collage but didn't apply for a grant. So she got divorced so she could get it.
They are still very much in love.
question time:
Would anyone get a divorced for a reason like that?

I will be honest here. There is a very strong likelihood my husband will be forced into medical retirement next year, if he has to have another back surgery. We will lose half of his income and our insurance. He will receive lifetime medical but the kids and I will be uninsured. We would not qualify for any ACA subsidies, so yes, I have thought about getting "divorced" on paper so that we could get medi-cal or another plan through the ACA, just until we can afford a private plan or I find a job with benefits. My husband would probably never ever agree to that though. But it something I have considered.

My grandparents have been divorced almost 20 years and still live together... they can't stand each other lol but I guess they don't know how to live without each other either. Granted, he does still drive a truck so she doesn't have to live with him in the house 24/7. According to them, they don't sleep together. They are definitely not romantically together. It's odd but it's been that way for so long, it is what it is to me.

My husband's grandparents got a divorce but lived together afterwards. I do not know why. I think the divorce came after most of the kids were adults. His grandma never worked a day in her life and that's probably why they stayed under the same roof but in separate bedrooms. I never saw them speak to each other. There is no way she would have gotten a job to support herself. Even stranger is, after they both had serious health declines and needed to be a nursing home, my mil had them put in the same room! Grandma died after a few weeks, grandpa is still living.

When I went back to school I thought about getting a divorce. My school is extremely expensive because it is a private university. I only qualify for $450 of financial aid a semester. I also was forced to go back to work full time because of the cost of private health insurance for my son and myself. Since dh and I married, I don't qualify for ACA subsidies but health insurance for a family through his work is $1300. I ultimately decided to just suck it up and be in debt from school and I went back to work full time to get health insurance forcing me to put my ds in daycare. Looking back, I wish we would have gotten a divorce so that I would have less student loan debt and I could have continued to work part time until he started kindergarten.
