They aren't covered. At least not fully by national healthcare. You can apply for assistance with them (that's what the link says)but they only give you $1000. The pair my husband got was $6200. It says most private insurances cover some of it too. Here, they don't.

I'm in Alberta Canada and I'm not totally sure. My dad's was covered but he is a senior so they have more coverage than the average person. (Example: children and seniors get free vision care).

My husband's grandma need hearing aids too she has medicare and they cover $0 also. Hers cost around $3,500 per one. I would look into donations. A lot of people donate them

We can afford them outright so the money isn't an issue. I just think it's absolutely ABSURD that not being able to hear is not considered a medical need. If you can't see there is vision insurance. If you can't hear there should be hearing insurance!!!!!

Squishy if you have a sams club you might be able to get them that way. I know it sounds weird but one of my friends got his through sams club.

I work for a health insurance company. Some policies do cover them even at 100%. What's covered and not covered in a plan is chosen by the employer when they set up the plans for their employees.

In the uk they would be free on the nhs, you can pay privately if you want more choice or a particular one.

I'm in the US and I currently need a $6,000+ pair of hearing aids. We cannot afford it out of pocket until later this year.....and the only way we will have help covering it is with FEHB because my husband is a federal employee....but they only cover a portion of it.

It's SO frustrating to me. I have a mix of hearing loss from untreated ear infections as a child and genetic hearing loss. I am at the point where I struggle to hear my children. If that's not a goddamned f*** ing medical necessity I don't know what is. My insurance will cover a sex change (not starting a debate here) but they won't help cover hearing aids. It's f*** ing insane.

In the uk they not only fund hearing aids but any reasonable equipment you might need as well, as a child anyway, so vibrating pillow alarms, t link systems for classrooms, lights for fire alarms etc. are all free. (Not sure for adults but then you could get some stuff on prescription and all prescriptions are £8.20).

It's terrible something this necessary isn't covered.

Katie...SAMs club and/or Costco..their hearing aids are actually just sound amplifiers. Not actual hearing aids. That is why they are so cheap. We picked Starkeys. Which is one of the major brands.
