We have a referendum on the ballot today for a new elementary school for the kids in our district. We desperately need this to pass but with 60% of our population being retired seniors with no real stake in it....all they really see is that their property taxes will go up. They won't even go up that much....roughly $135 a year. The old school is literally becoming dangerous. God I hope this passes.

Hope it passes. How's the current school becoming dangerous?

Our school (at least 2/3 of it) is 110 years old and has roofing issues and is starting to have major structural issues in both the old part and the added on part (which was built in the 70's). There is also NO ducting or way to put a/c in there. Last year we hit days of 100 degrees before school was out and the kids were sitting in classrooms with nothing more then fans to attempt to keep them cool. It would cost almost the same to have the current school repaired to where it needs to be vs just building a new school. The high school sits on 80 acres that are not being used (where the new school would go...they would be attached and essentially 1 school) and the property the school sits on would be sold and torn down to offset some of the costs of some of the new construction. Everyone but the old people want it. But the old people hold the majority vote ?

Yikes. Maybe they'll forget it's voting day lol sounds like a new school would be beneficial.

Oh man Coco ??? it would have been a blast if you could have made it. I'd have bought you a beach girl drink thing from the bar. Best $17 drink I've ever had ????

I'm hoping for a town wide 24 hour amnesia epidemic for people over 60 ?

I won't. I quit. Newport Beach was my last event.

It passed!
Time to celebrate.

Whoop whoop! I'm excited. It's still going to take 2ish years to be built....but I'm so thankful it passed (and it's closer to my house....bonus!)

My state wants us to let the capital be incharge of teacher retention and preformance evaluations. They also want to change the current tenure to preformace based off standardized test only

Awesome! That's great news.
I've been lazy today, so haven't checked. Us parents are hoping for the 1/2 cent increase otherwise more schools will close in fl. I need to go check to see if it passed or not.
