Stressed about money yet again, how can the government deny a mother to be whose 8 months pregnant with ei? How am I suppose to work with a new born? 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Yeah you wouldn’t be able to work for 6 weeks post csection (I work on L&D in Red Deer) E.I benefits and maternity benefits are different departments but you’d likely not qualify to switch over to maternity because you haven’t worked so it kind of makes sense. Call the Alberts Works in Red Deer and apply for emergency benefits, and they will set you up with an appointment with an intake worker. They will help you out and will pay till your child’s one year old. You will also start getting Canada Child Benefit, with the two you should do just fine love.
@beakymcspence, thank you yes I figured they pay me until August which would have been just fine. I tried applying for jobs after my miscarriage in sylvan Rimbey and rockey but couldn’t find anything so I had to go on ei. It didn’t specify why I didn’t get it but I believe your right and I did use up all my benifits. I’m going to send in the request for reconsideration and even ask if they can just continue until August from my regular ei. I might be getting a c section so working right away worry’s me
It looks from your description above that you expected EI to pay you till August, and you haven’t worked since last year when you had the miscarriage and then got pregnant again. You likely don’t qualify because you’ve used all your entitled benefits up. Generally they suggest you work up till a month or two weeks before you deliver and then use your benefits once baby is born, you’ve likely used all your benefits on the miscarriage and pregnancy? Just a guess. I’d definitely get yourself into the provincial building in red deer and get yourself on the wait list for social assistance with the Alberta Works program.
@katiehofer01, What is their reason for denying you E.I? Only reason I’ve ever heard of is if you don’t qualify or haven’t worked enough hours leading up to the leave. If you don’t qualify for E.I go into Red Deer and apply for social assistance.
They denied me initially because they recorded me as having gone back to work 5 days after giving birth. It took three weeks to get an employee with enough clearance to fix it.
Have you been on maternity & parental leave since your miscarriage or were you on employment insurance? Either way, I believe you have to have been employed for 6 months to be eligible for either. I could be wrong though. I don’t work for Service Canada.
@katiehofer01 that's what makes Canada great yet again hahahaha. We have thee best country, thee best rights and thee best coverage. Fight for it mama because that's our right! You will get it figured out im sure and have faith in it.
Exactly!! You totally should. And I'm sure they should have some sort of exception for emergency situations!! If not then whats the flipped point of them even existing? I wish you all the best of luck mama! 🤗 hugs🤗
@sashalicious, I’m going to put a request for reconsideration in hope that helps.
They should have good reason to cut you off otherwise they shouldn't have ! That's ludacris and id make a big stink about it if I were you. Take it so the media if you have to!!
@sashalicious, thank you it is quite stressful, I am going to put a request for reconsideration even if it’s for 3 months it would help so much with my bills.
I went on ei when I had a miscarriage last year then ended up pregnant again a month later it says it was suppose to go to August which would have been perfect but they stopped payments in April.
Wow. I'm in shock that EI could do something like that to you!! Can you appeal their decision? That's crazy and I'm sorry they're putting you through this extra stress my dear!
@squishymommy1, ok well that’s Merica’ and I’m from Canada but thanks for your input.
@katiehofer01, yes. Like a newborn. Maternity leave is not a right here in America and you can only get your job saved for you if your company has more then 50 people which DOESNT include pay and you only get 8 weeks.
@squishymommy1, with a new born? Like the day after getting out of the hospital? I don’t know many Canadian Mother’s that do that usually they wait about 3 months at least.
@courtneyxa, For Ontario, it is 600 hours in the last 52 weeks.
