Kay so I'm trying to teach my 4yold how to behave around baby. Dont hug baby to tight, dont be up in her face too much ect. But its soo hard and I feel like a growling mama bear to my 4 yold. Baby is only 3 weeks old and I'm so protective over her. I had baby on her rocker and walked into the room and my 4yold was hugging baby but when she saw me she kinda jumped away from baby and looked guilty. I feel like a horrible mom. I didn't want my 4yold to feel bad about being interested in her sister but I just dont want baby to get hurt. Any other moms feel this way ???

I know! I want to get to that stage where I can leave her in the room for a bit with baby and know she won't squish her or something. Guess it takes some time.

I get on my 18 month old all the time. My son is 3 weeks old too and my older boy wants to always be up in his face, but I also let him hug on him if I'm holding his brother cuz I don't want him to feel a bad way towards his new brother.

I just tell my son don’t do that do it like this, or be easy with sister she’s just little and now it’s been 4 months he is super gentle with her and I don’t worry about him hurting her 95% of the time now and he’s 1.5 so soon your daughter will figure it out just encourage the right types of behavior and don’t get mad at her for being rough she doesn’t understand and getting on to her a lot might make her resent the baby. We also taught him if he hurts her to kiss her head to make her feel better so instead of yelling at him we just say “tell her sorry”
