So many people have asked me about Isabelle’s birthday party and it’s so stressful I’m thinking about just not even having one.
His mom wants it at her house, which is an hour away. My grandma wants it at HER house, which is closer but super stuffy. Someone suggested just getting a venue, but I’m not paying $200 for 90 minutes somewhere, and I’m most certainly not going to force everyone to an outdoor party in the middle of JULY. My apartment definitely isn’t big enough.
Then, there’s the guest list. We don’t have a ton of friends who would show up. David’s family is HUGE. My family isn’t that big, but my grandma and stepmom insisted last year on inviting all 600 of their friends (most of whom I didn’t even KNOW) and their kids/grandkids. It was awkward and annoying. Half of David’s family didn’t even show up last year and I’m still annoyed, even without them it was still super crowded and I hated every second of it.
Then there’s the date. David wants it on the Fourth of July, but it’s a Wednesday. I’d prefer it on her actual birthday, but it’s on a Sunday. So I’m leaning more toward that Saturday.
My grandma actually suggested two separate parties, one for my family and one for his, but it just pissed me off. The way I see it, we’re ONE FAMILY. Are we supposed to have two separate weddings, too? 🙄
I just want a nice, relaxing day where things can go slow, there’s no time limit, and both of our families can just come together and celebrate our daughter.

Make it invitation only. Then add something not noticeable to the invites to stop copies from being made

Could you just have it at grandmas and do only close family? You can say you don't want to overwhelm your daughter.

We're not having a party this year. We're going to have cake with close family the day before, and then on his birthday we are going to the zoo or a museum, depending on the weather. It's not worth the stress or anxiety to me, and he obviously doesn't care. And I never once asked to see my 2nd birthday photos, so I doubt he'll be upset when he's an adult.

@masseymomma16, I really don’t want to upset my grandmother but whatever we do, I DO NOT want it at her house. 😅 Even 6-7 people is a crowd there and it gets sweltering hot. David’s moms house would actually be the perfect place, but it’s an hour away and I just don’t know if any of my family will come, and I’m not planning two parties. 😕

@marismomma, I totally would if we had a pool! My apartment complex has one but I don’t think they’d let us rent it out, and our city doesn’t have a public one aside from the YMCA, which really isn’t even public unless you have a membership. I wish though!

@tinyhumansbitch, So many people in David’s family didn’t show up last year! I’ve made it a point to let it be known that we love them, but invitations this year and going forward are limited and if they don’t show up this year, they won’t be invited again for a long time.

@nomli, I’m thinking maybe the day before her birthday (Saturday) we’ll do the party and then on her actual birthday we’ll do something with just the three of us, even if we just go to the park or do something small at home.
