Legal action
In your school district, what is the point of them taking action against a legal guardian/parent of a child that’s missed so many days of school?

Last week she missed Monday, Thursday and Friday. Today’s Monday and she didn’t go to school either. ?

In our district, they take legal action after 10 days. I was a truant in high school, and it got to the point where a police officer would show up at my house every morning to take me to school. Then they expelled me when it became entirely too much.
Edit: truancy is a summary the first 3 offenses. Then it becomes a misdemeanor.

In our state it's a misdemeanor for parents. I've had clients criminally charged for their kids truancy.

I’m not sure if there’s a limit for excused absences? Dd has never missed more than a handful of days per school year, so I really don’t know. I know they say that missing just 10 days per year can really cause setbacks in their education though.

Because it’s the parents job to make sure they go to school, it’s the law that a child has to go to school.

People that don't make their kid's education a priority make me so mad. It's pretty much guaranteeing that they start out on the wrong foot. I'm not sure how the school has let it go this long. If I remember correct, my high school was around 13 unexcused days all year.

Sometimes dh and I get worried because she could get charged and my niece being held back for missing so many days.

@chrys, I didn’t ask why... lol ?

You ask what is the point of them taking action.... did you mean at what point
deleted-user·
Yes but my post didn’t go that way for you? Lol
I know there’s legal action that can be there. I have a third grader.

Yeah I guess what is the point and at what point mean two different things to mean sorry lol
But to answer the question 10 days of unexcused absences
It’s only excused if there is a doctors note

I have personally in Been through this with my son who suffers from migraines we have gone to court on 2 different occasions and I believe here the school districts is 7 days if they miss more than 7 days without a doctor's note they are all considered unexcused and then that's when they start taking legal action
I said also add it wasn't legal action against me it was against my son and then they put my son on a 90 day probation where he couldn't miss any days without a doctor's note during that time and had to follow couple other rules and then if he did that then they took him off a probation so it's a long ways out before anything would happen to me if he would could tinue to do that then they would have sent him to a special I school where they have a probation officer Pick him up every day or they would do some community service it think it would be many many things would happen before the legal action was actually taken against Does the parents and at that point I think the 1st thing would be removing the child from the home until the child's attendance could get better I don't think you would get any charges against you unless you were seriously abusing the child and some sort of way

I read it the same as Chrystal. To answer then, here it's 10 days as well.

In our school district, if they miss over 3 days in a semester unexcused, the school sends a letter home. If they miss more than 7 days unexcused in a semester, the parent has to go in for a meeting with the principal and counselor. After 10 unexcused days, they contact CPS.
