Advice?! My kid!!!!!!!!
So my son started kindergarten this year.. It's only been a week 1/2 since he's started. Well he's already has been in timeout for not waiting to eat his snacks at school, then yesterday got into trouble cuz his cousins come and pick him up when I'm not able to. Well one of his cousins go to his school and was like "come on" my sons teacher said no he's going to have to wait till your older sister comes cuz she's an adult well my son got up avid left anyways without listening to his teacher... Now his teacher calls me saying he refused to do his little work in class today and he wouldn't even pick up the pencil to try and his excuse to the teacher was he can't do it! I'm sooooo frustrated with this I have no idea what to do! He's only in kindergarten and it's already a bad start for him :-( last year he was in pre k but it was half day and absolutely no problems what so ever! And moms out there with advice??? I've already took away his cartoons and his snacks... What else? And told him to listen and do your work before u get into bigger trouble at home... I know this long but I'm lost and my boy is being so stubborn! :-/

My daughter is the same age and just started kindergarten as well. Although I am not going through what you are, she loves it And does well, I have been around children that do it.
I taught pre school for two years.
I don't agree with him getting in trouble for not eating his snack. That's not a valid reason for time out. If he didn't want it, he shouldn't be forced to eat it.
Lets just take that off the table and deal with the real issues.
In teaching and in parenting I have learned that at this age, punishment for minor not listening and minor behavior problems should ALWAYS come after a long talk without yelling or condenscendinf tone.
For example, if I am going to punish my daughter for something small like not listening when I told her to take something to the trash, I would first sit down and explain why they are about to get in trouble and why The rule is there in the first place.
I would say now Madison you know you have to listen and when mama says to do something you have to do it. I don't make you clean up trash to be mean. Would you like it if the whole house started stinking because no one cleaned up trash? Would you like to live to in a dirty house with mess everywhere? No? Ok then, that's why we clean up. Now you are going to sit in time out for x minutes to think about it and I hope now you will listen and clean your trash.
Also once they get out of timeout I always say" that's not fun is it? Next time we are going to listen rifht?".
I would explain to him that he couldn't leave with the younger child because there are plenty of people that would love to take him home and he would be scared and his teacher was just making sure he went with a trusted adult that could care for him.
When children understand rules they are.generally less frustrated and learn from mistakes more than if you would have just yelled and said I told you so.
Hope this helps.

Also he should not have been able to just walk out of a classroom. That teacher should have physically stopped him from leaving without an adult.

Sounds like he is having problems adjusting. Also I wonder, is the teacher new? I am a teacher (only with a little older students - 2nd grade), but really getting upset about snack is crazy. He might not be hungry.
You can do an incentive chart at home to help with him doing his work in the classroom. Work to earn something as a reward. My son's problem was behavior, he is EXTREMELY well behaved if I'm around, but went through a period of time where he wanted to play in school. The chart was successful for us.
He also needs to understand he can't just leave the room. Not safe at all.

I haven't yelled at him... I've talked to him and told him to be nice and listen! He's always a great kid and his teacher said that as well maybe it's hard to him to adjust to new friends and a teacher. We went home and I told him there's no snacks after dinner... Like a cupcake and stuff but healthier stuff he knows he can have like apples and bananas. I've not yelled at him for getting in trouble cuz I'm trying to understand what he is feeling when he decides to talk. His punishment for throwing a fit in class and not doing his work is not going to his friends bday party next weekend... He took it really well which was surprising lol. I told him if he keeps up his attitude in school and not listening than there's going to be more timeouts at home. I don't know if he's just acting like this cuz he's afraid of acting like that at home. He started a new school so he misses his old teacher and his friends and plus he's about to be a big brother and maybe that's his way of expressing himself?! I have no idea lol. I'm really patient with him but he knows when mommy has had enough! He apologized to me for his attitude in school and gave me a kiss and kissed my belly :-) he's a big sweet heart at home I just hope his consequences changes the way he acts at school!! And my hormones don't make it any better lol :-/ he's always a huge help around the house... He will help me clean it do laundry and pick up all his stuff with no fits or arguing. Hopefully he will be better tomorrow for his teacher

He just needs time to adjust. Its not even been a week yet. I would try not to over react. Just met the teacher know you are working with him at home and be consistent with your consequences. He will get it. I speak from experience and learning the hard way.

I think you are doing a great job! As a former teacher, I have dealt with kids just like your son and it's more of an adjustment issue than anything. He'll figure it out with good coaching like you are already doing. Stay involved- that's always the best thing!! Have you tried talking to the teacher infront of him about what your expectations are for behavior? Not that you and the teacher need to really have the discussion, but more so that he sees the two of you are on the same page. I had one parent do this with me and it really helped! Her son saw us as "friends"and was able to transfer the moms expectations to my expectations ... if that makes sense. Then, when he'd act out if just have to say, "remember what mom told us to do if you act like that?" or "I don't want mom to be sad if I have to share with mom how you are behaving". It might not work in your case but it's an idea.
