@kaguirre, they go away on their own. If he knows how to rinse his mouth you can have him rinse with warm salt water and then Ive heard of people dabbing it with salt or milk of magnesia after. But there's over the counter medication if it's bothering him.

My doctor just had this on the roof of her mouth and it went away in a few days. If he’s in pain I’d give him some Tylenol or put orajel on it

It's def a canker sore/apthous ulcer. I work in dental and have seen plenty.

That does not look like a cold sore. I’m not familiar with canker sores but that might be it.
