My parents are big church goers and yesterday my dad asked when I’m coming back to church blah blah blah. I no longer want to attend the church for many reasons. I want to find my own church with my husband and 4 year old. I told him the conversation was over so I wouldn’t become “too disrespectful”. My mom calls later on and tells me I have a “flipping attitude” and she longer is going to do my baby shower??. She says to get whoever else to do it. Anyone else think this is absolutely ridiculous and stupid ? I just needed to vent. UGGGHHH. 26 weeks and super emotional.
Sidenote:I moved out of their house at 19.. I’m 22, married with a 4 year old and 1 on the way. I’m fully capable of making my own decisions and doing what I want

Don’t even let your mother bother you. If she wants to be petty and not throw your baby shower over something so stupid then oh well. Just tell her that’s fine. She wants a reaction out of you. Don’t give her that reaction.

I’m not going to let her get one! I wasn’t even able to get a word out when she called. Plus she hung up on me once she was done. It’s like I’m dealing with some child 🙄

@kaileymason33, reminds me of my mother. You are not being unreasonable at all. You want to pick a different church for your family, and there is nothing wrong with that at all.

Thank you!!!!

You are too pregnant to be dealing with that @kaileymason33 hopefully she comes around.

That’s just wrong I stopped going to church also cause the pastor was talking about people and people always gossiping there’s no reason to be mad at you cause you want to choose your own church with your family you have your own life to live and own family

Thank you ladies!!

I agree with @missheatherbaby. I’m in a similar situation only it’s not over church. My mother told me yesterday that she’s not coming to my shower because I’ve yet to tell her when it is (not true, I’ve told her twice) and because I’m not allowing her to invite people I haven’t approved of. I decided that I am not going to beg her. I’m going to simply forward her the details and if she comes great and if she doesn’t that’s fine too.

@laylasmom, I think it’s pretty crazy we have to go through things like this with OUR PARENTS and they make us look like we are the bad guys. I’m not going to let it bother me. She was pushing me to have a shower to begin with BUT I was buying and planning everything? Umm No, you pushed a shower to be a hostess and aren’t going to plan. 🙄 Guess I dodged a bullet but not having to do everything.

My mom is the same exact way. I'm 25 and married for nearly 2 years now and I've lived on my own (with him) since I was 19 or 20. She uses every little thing against me. If she helps with something then she will take it away the moment I do something to displease her. Which can be basically anything. She is hosting my shower and shes already thrown tantrums because I've set boundaries on not wanting her in the hospital room when I deliver and I didnt have her come to my anatomy scan. She literally didnt talk to me for about 4 days. What I did was I went to have a sit down face to face with her. I explained that shes the grandmother and better get in the grandmother role instead of trying to be mom. I'm going to make decisions for my family. It doesnt matter to me if she likes them or not. But it could jeopardize her involvement with her grandchild if she wants to be petty because I'm not going to have it around my child.
Definitely stand your ground!! I dont think that its disrespectful at all for you to make decisions for your family. If anything she should be happy that shes raised a strong independent woman with a mind of her own!

Two points I would make here:
1) I was in the same spot as you when I was about 19 years old. I left the Catholic Church due to my own personal belief system and education that I received while in college. Neither one of my parents liked it much, and they gave me a really hard time about it for a good year, but we finally came to an understanding and moved on from that. Give them time.
2) although this may seem like tough criticism, I am simply calling it as I see it perhaps. You are approximately 18 years old when you had your first child, and although I understand you are married, you are going to be having a second child at only the age of 22.
Having said that, I am sure your parents or just simply worried for you behind all of their emotions. You had a child at an extremely young age and I'm sure that they had hoped you would experience a little bit more life before doing so. I would give them some time. Maybe write them a letter or? That way you can get all of your thoughts out without any interruptions. Actions speak a lot louder than words. Just show them that you are an adult and you are responsible and you are on a straight and positive path in life.

Yes I agree with you that that is ridiculous.. Try not to let them stress you out! I think you did good by just ending the Convo with your dad! Keep up the good work on trying to stay positive and do what you think is best for you and your family!!
