Anyone ever done a gofundme account? My sis and brothers in a halt. The funeral people want 6000 something up front and my sis is so stressed cause everyone trying to throw the burden of the money all on her. Her uncle and aunt asking her for a credit card. Like wtf She's so much in debt and she doesn't know what to do and doesn't want to beg. Idk what to do to help

Have you considered cremation? It's much cheaper. And you can divide the ashes up. Seems barbaric but that's what a lot of people are doing today to avoid costly funerals.

First of all, I'm sorry for your loss.

Is there any life insurance that could be used to cover funeral costs? I'd check that out first. Then I'd consider simplifying the funeral arrangements to make it more affordable. I understand that services can be very meaningful and important to people, but you can have a very respectful, modest service as well. I hope everything works out.

Same thing with my father when he passed. I needed $4500-$6000 up front. Luckily, THANK GOD, we had it.

But, Gofundme will probably take a LOT longer than can be afforded.

Maybe see about a loan? Or ask a family member and pay them back when the life insurance pays up. I know “funeral loans” are an option. It’s hard to loose a loved one.

@wafflespancakes he didn't have any life insurance. He was on disability for alot of problems. And recently within this year was diagonsed with lung cancer. And this past Thursday at his appt they said his cancer spread to his throat and was asking if he wanted hospice to step in and he died 2 days later.

Has anyone tried talking to the funeral home, maybe seeing if they can waive anything, cut things out, do a payment plan, something? My fiancé's family used to own a funeral home and sometimes they'd make adjustments or exceptions if a family really couldn't pay.

I'm sorry, money should not be a worry at this time.

@lovemyson21516, a funeral loan and a regular loan will be totally different. She won’t need any kind of collateral as long as the deceased party had life insurance.

Did she help with funeral costs when their father died? If so, then the right thing to do would be to help. But, as long as the person had life insurance then all that money will be paid back.

My husband and I are donating our bodies to the medical school I attended. I’m not sure about every school but ours had a “celebration of life” ceremony three times a year in which the families of the cadavers could attend. It was really nice. Also my school covered the cost of cremation-urn and the cremated bodies were returned to the families in a special urn thanking them for their gift to science etc. I now teach an Anatomy and Physiology lab at a different university and the bodies are respected 100% and the students are very grateful for their “1st patients”. The school I currently teach at does not do a celebration of life ceremony but they do cover the cremation and urn. Perhaps you could contact a medical school or dental school near you if you are interested in this option.
