I just have to rant to someone other than my mother.
Is there something wrong with me? My daughter's father and I have been together for almost 6 years. We have been living together for 5 years, we have a house together, we have our daughter, and I feel like things are still going great. I've told him that I want to get married, he tells me he wants to get married and nothing else ever comes about. On Easter he told me that within two weeks we'd be engaged and the two weeks came and he never did anything. I'm just getting sick of waiting and wondering if he even wants to get married and feeling like he just says he wants to because he thinks it's what I want to hear. I'm just so over it. I love him, but I don't know if I can be with somebody who doesn't want to go the next step.

Why don't you ask him?

You need to have a no kidding conversation with him

@laywatz like me propose? It's not my style. I don't think a woman should propose.
Katie·
@newlyironman that's what our conversation was on Easter.

My man is the same way. He says we will get married someday. He brought up finances and that it makes more since to hold off for a little while. I've tried to at least get an engagement. Some sign of long term commitment. But he always avoids it. I know he truly loves me but marriage doesn't seem important to him. Maybe that's what yours is thinking?

@kaitrack23 yes I meant propose...
But I've never been all that caught up in gender roles anyway. Let me tell you how my husband and I got engaged.
Picture this... somewhere in Illinois 2008.. I'm driving hubby (bf at the time) is in the passenger seat.
Him: Hey babe?
Me: yeah?
Him: I think we should get married
Me: I think so too, are you asking?
Him: No
Me: umm ok
Couple of weeks later. Once again while I'm driving he's sitting shot gun
Him: Hey honey?
Me: yeah?
Him: I think we should get married.
Me: I think so too, are you asking?
Him: No
Me: Okey dokey
And again a few weeks later, same thing. I'm driving he's in the passenger seat
Him: Hey darling?
Me: yeah?
Him: I think we should get married.
Me : I think so too, are you asking? Because if you are this kinda sucks.
Him: yes, but no, I don't have a ring
Me: Alrighty then.
Because, I've never been the kind of girl to wait around on a man.. I went out and bought my wedding set, came home handed him the rings and the receipt and said "here's the ring, you can pay me back in installments if you don't have the money right now."
He looked at me and then the ring and then laughed. Then we both got down on our knees and asked each other.
Was it super romantic??? No...
But it was sweet and very "us".
We celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary in April we've been together for 11.5 years and have a very happy healthy relationship.
Anywho, my point is that hubby and I have always had a relationship based on honesty, trust, humor and love. We rarely fight and when we do, it is never abusive and we always treat each other with respect. We love one another deeply and we both know that we were meant for each other.
But with all that said, I would probably still be waiting for a "proper proposal" if I would have waited on him. My hubby subscribes to the "if it ain't broke don't fix it " philosophy. In his mind getting married wasn't a priority because our relationship has always been great.
It sounds like your SO might think this way too... so there's nothing wrong with you per se. Your SO probably doesn't see any point in rushing into marriage because you two have a good thing going.

I hear ya girl..I'm almost in a similar situation.....I have been engaged for over a year now, but nothing else has come of it. We haven't started planning or have a date at all and everyone keeps asking and it's vee annoying. I have told him I am more than ready to set a date and he says he is too but yet again nothing comes of it. I honestly would almost rather not be engaged than be engaged and have no plan to get married. I don't wear my ring a lot anymore bc I'm sick of explaining whenever someone asks me
Katie·
@italmama111 I'm just so over it already.
