HELP ME OUT! I will be 33 weeks tomorrow. My job is a 12hours shift. I am also am in the Army Reserves. I just had to leave my civilian job for 2 weeks for military obligations. Today was my last day of military duty. On yesterday my boss texted me and asked me to call her ,in which I did . She stated that I had to work a 16 hour shift tomorrow. Needless to say she gave me no time to rest. She moved me from day shift to nights starting tomorrow. I go in to work at 6p.m and get off the next day at 10a.m. Remind you she made the point to tell me that I have other days that I will be work 16 hrs. Please explain why am I the only one working 16 hr shifts for the month of May. I really feel that she is trying to make me quit. I understand she will be short handed when I go on maternity leave June 2 but that's a personal problem. I was gonna help her out and tell her to call me in to fill in if need be as long as I wasn't busying but since she wants to be dirty I will let her figure it out.

To me that seems like a unreasonable amount to work in your third trimester, I'm not sure how you've been feeling but I know myself wouldn't have been able to do that long of a shift at 33 weeks and I'm 38 weeks now.

Talk to your dr about it and ask for a note from them saying you cant work over a certain amout of houra per day. Usually your doc will do it, especially if theyre trying to get you to work 16 hr shifts. Thats overkill. And with a dr note they cant say no or fire you over it.

Sounds like she does want you to quit. I dont think I would have been able to do it. I would call HR and put a complain on her. It's really horrible and unethical. If it was me I would call HR soon as possible then I would go to work my scheduled time and as soon as I start not feeling well I would let someone know I'm not feeling well and I have to go. They give me a hard time I would call Hr and report it again. But again this is just what I would do cause I wouldn't put my job on the line so close to going into labor.
Keep your head up and play your cards right for that maturity leave. Trust if your getting the benefits it will be worth it.

@ambersmith19932013 thats true. My doctor was a jerk she didn't want to give me a note for nothing as she said she was in the middle of her surgery during her labor. I'm like okay superwoman but that aint me lol. Good idea.

I guess to me it really just depends on what you do for work.. I’m a nurse and often work 16 hour shifts. I do think that if you are having a hard time working all of those hours you should call HR or try and talk to your boss.. is she at least a reasonable person?

Get a note from your doctor requesting part time till the baby comes!! Your job will have to abide by it!

Look into ADA accommodations for pregnancy! Pregnancy isn’t technically a disability, but some pregnant women can only handle so much. Every women is different. I agree with calling HR, and if they don’t want to help either just let them know that you will continue working as told to do but you’ll be looking into ADA accommodations. Especially if your the only one working that many hours. It could technically be harassment.

I would talk to your doctor im sure they will let your job know you can not be working that way.

@takesma, I wish I had known about it when I was having problem with my job a few months ago. I was 6 months working with troubled juveniles. I had to work alone on a unit every day that consisted of 13 teenage boys. One of them threw a glass cup at me, he had about 100 lbs on me so I called for backup. I then Requested an additional person on my unit at all times, I wasn’t going to risk my pregnancy for some money. HR denied my request, because they said there was enough staff In The actual building so I didn’t need an additional person on my specific unit. I ended up quitting. Seems Grimey to have to go to the measures of having outside resources involved, but sometimes it’s what has to be done. Goodluck girl.
