So what is everyone’s take on feeding your LO a little bit of juice. Oscar is about to be 6 months on Friday & I want him to try some juices. (Which will all be diluted with water so it’s not real sugary). I know a lot of people are against it, but why?

My daughter is three and only had juice a handful of times. In my opinion, its unnecessary sugars for their little bodies.

Breast milk or formula is all a baby needs for the first year of its life. Fruit juices are high in sugar and aren't an appropriate way to hydrate. Even for older kids, they're better off eating fruit and drinking water rather than drinking overly processed fruit juices. Obviously a baby cannot eat a whole piece of fruit nor should it. Even water is not recommended under the age of one year. It can be dangerous. Research water intoxication.

I’ll also add, give juice if you want blow outs. Juice will make them poop like crazy at that age.

@joffree., water? I thought it was okay to give them a little bit? I gave him a little bit from a straw today...

Why would you want to? What’s the rush? My one year old has never even had juice. No plans to give him any either.

Its not necessary at that age, other than milk, I would sometimes give a bit of boiled water for constipation but that's it. If you are going to do juice I would make it fresh like squeeze a sweet orange for the juice and not store bought juices.

Yes you can give them a little bit of a time and add water if you want it’s nothing wrong with that

Juice is not something they need. And yes at 6 months you can start to introduce a little bit of water to them. I personally, don’t give my son juice, he has it on occasion, but it’s still too sweet. There is little nutritional value behind giving your child juice.

My dr says no juice before one even at that it’s empty calories but juice can cause problems like obesity and diabetes and only an oz or two of water is the recommendation for water at six months juice can also cause diarrhea before one and even after my son doesn’t get juice unless he hasn’t pooped in a while otherwise he has diarrhea for days and will get a rash from the acidity in some juices

There’s really no need to give a baby juice unless they’re constipated and it’s prune/apple juice

Omg give your baby juice if you want to! No not a lot but babies need more than formula or milk before one, by 6 months they should be starting baby foods and cereal. I gave my son apple juice and water whenever after 6 months and his doctor said IT WAS FINE! You are your child's mother, only you can decide what is good and what isn't, you are the one who knows your baby, no one else. My son had a little cereal in his bottles by 4 months, was eating gerber cereal for breakfast and gerber baby food twice a day by 5 months if he wanted it, he was ready. My son drank juicy juice a lot because it was recommended by WIC so that's a juice I would try first. He was even given apple juice in the hospital one time when he had a bad fever and he wasn't 1 yet. Go ahead and water it down a little so its not all sugar but just because something isn't recommended until a certain age, if it's not harmful in any way and your baby seems ready for it give it a shot. Even try pedialyte, that's good for babies too and that was given to my son when he was only a couple months because he got super dehydrated due to having the 24hr flu. Only you can decide what's best.

@ladyblauvelt.skysmomma, she specifically asked what everyone’s take was on giving their baby juice. So that’s what people are doing.
Allyson Almeda·
@kellynicole more like telling her what she can and cant do saying what's best for her baby just because it's "not recommended". everyone except for one or 2 told her she shouldn't because baby doesn't need it, and barely anyone gave her advice on how to do it safely or other options rather than juice. It seemed like she was being lectured more than anything and no mom needs that.
Kelly 🌻·
@ladyblauvelt.skysmomma, why are you getting so defensive? Even doctors will tell you it’s not recommended because it has no nutritional value. Just sugar. The people at WIC aren’t doctors they’re a business.
Allyson Almeda·
@kellynicole the people at WIC have medical experience like nurses do and my doctor said it was perfectly fine if baby was ready and the hospital even gave my son juice once before he was 1. I'm not getting defensive, I'm just tired of seeing responses to questions that seem more like lecturing, especially about something like this that really has no potential harm, there are things babies definitely shouldn't have before one like honey or syrup because of potentially harmful bacteria, but a little bit of juice sometimes isn't a big deal. Just because it isn't recommended doesn't mean some babies may not need it before one. All babies are different, I was simply making a point that as his mom, she knows what's best and if she feels he's ready then she can try it.

@ladyblauvelt.skysmomma, you’re the one lecturing though
Allyson Almeda·
@kellynicole maybe I am but it's not directed towards her at all. Nothing but support from me
