Nipple shields can dry up your milk supply. I know someone who’s milk started drying up when her baby was 4 months and she tried everything before it completely dried up but she just couldn’t get it back

I’ve been using them since she was born and I wouldn’t be able to breastfeed without them. The lactation consultant told me to get the smallest ones so either smalls or x small. That way there’s more contact with the nipple to create stimulation and aid in milk supply.

I needed mediums.. idk how to figure size though. & they didn't do anything negative to my milk supply either.

Im quite big chested and I used 24mm with my first. Not sure if thats any help.

I needed x small- small because my baby was small and they were easier for him to got in his mouth and get in contact with the nipple.

Going to sound weird but my nipples aren’t exactly “breastfeeding type” because they are considered to be slightly inverted that’s why my OB recommended the nipple nipple shield to help me with my goal of breast feeding!

@paigerue2013 I also have not all the way but sorta inverted nipples.. I used shields for about a month and then was able to bf without them, but they definitely helped A LOT in the beginning.

Mine was all provided by the hospital, but to size it yourself you measure your nipple (not areola) from the base of the nipple across. And that tells you what size you need. Should be a size chart on packaging. If not I'm sure you can find one online. Hope that helps.
