so about 5 days ago i started getting a bad ear ache/jaw ache/sore throat on my right side. didn’t think anything of it bc i kept taking ibuprofen & it would go away.
saturday night/early sunday morning i woke up with a 101.9 degree fever and a super sore throat. so sore i couldn’t drink or eat anything. not kidding i would go thru labor 10 more times before feeling this pain. sunday morning i woke up w a 104 degree fever & decided to go to urgent care.
went to urgent care sunday afternoon & they said i have strep throat. they prescribed me amoxicillin & told me it should start working within 24 hours.
hour 36 and i’m still in pain. i haven’t eaten since saturday night, i’m forcing myself to drink gatorade and water to try & keep hydrated, i have a headache, my body aches, and my fever won’t stay under control unless i take tylenol every 6 hours on the dot. my throat is still so swollen my voice sounds muffled. my bf works all day so i’m home w karter w no help and it’s so hard to take care of a baby while you feel like you’re literally dying. idk what to do, i don’t remember strep being this bad before & ive had it plenty of times as a child.

Call the urgent care and tell them the antibiotics didn't work. They'll determine if you need something different. Do not stop taking the antibiotics unless the doctor tells you to.
You can alternate Tylenol and ibuprofen every 6 hours. Ibuprofen will help with swelling and inflammation.

I’ve had strep throat a number of times. My tonsils were so swollen, I ended up needing surgery. (Tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy because I stopped responding to antibiotics.)
Please take care of yourself. Call urgent care and get different antibiotics. Amoxicillin didn’t work for sh*t for my infection. You need a broad spectrum antibiotic. And also in my experience, it took more than a week’s worth of meds. Take them at the same exact time every day with as much water as you can. I used ice chips and ibuprofen in order to get through the pain of just swallowing liquid. Even if/when you start to feel better, follow up with your primary care physician to make sure the infection has completely cleared. That crap comes back so fast. If it does come back, you’ll want to visit an ENT specialist.
Disinfect everything after you’re better. It’s so contagious. I’m so sorry girl. I know how much pain you’re in. Hope it gets better fast. 😞❤️

So my husband has been going through this recently! And they told him it’s viral pharyngitis at the hospital. Alternate Tylenol and Motrin to break the fever
