Hey ladies I have a small problem I guess. I have this friend who has a daughter and there’s only a 1month age difference between her and my daughter. Since our daughters have been born I feel like she always tries to compete and compare our children. I’m getting so annoyed at this point that I don’t hang out with her and don’t talk on the phone with her as much as I’d like because she just drives me crazy. Just to give you some examples when they were born we would always share the new things that are happening with our infants like she would say “Amy smiled for the first time or Amy’s first tooth pooped through” I would always say “oh that’s so wonderful how exciting” but whenever I would share some exciting news she would always say “Amy does that too” never complementing my child. Now they’re over 2yrs and she compares everything example : they’re sitting on the couch and she’ll press their feet up to each other to measure who has bigger feet or when they’re standing she’ll compare who is taller etc. I’m just so annoyed by it and I don’t know what to do anymore 🤷🏼♀️ I have other friends with children similar age to mine and we always compliment and there’s never a competition. Do you ladies have any advice for me? Any smart ass comeback? Anything???

I had a similar issue with a mom. I just basically ended the friendship. I got so fed up at one point. It’s not a competition and she shouldn’t be treating the kids that way.

My mom and her twin sister did that all our life to me and my cousin.

I would honestly just talk to her. She may not realize that it's bothering you. No need to be rude. Sometimes good communication saves friendships

We have a group of friends that are all couples. We always have get togethers and BBQs and all the husbands are friends so cutting her out of my life would be hard.

I’ve tried to hint a few times by saying “ every child is different” or “ they all have different qualities “ but it’s same shit all the time. Maybe I’ll wait till I’m no longer pregnant get some liquid courage in me and have a talk with her.

No comebacks I would just have to end the friendship I don’t know how you lasted over two years of that I wouldn’t have made it past a few months

I've had that problem with my best friend and her daught and with my husband with his son (my step son). I went straight to the "every child progresses at a different pace" then I went into how making the comparisons makes me feel. No one will really know how much it effect you unless you let them know.

I had a friend like this keyword HAD I promise it doesn’t get better lol. My friend would go as far as to try and say her child was potty trained (around 11 months at the time) she also claimed one time he was walking already he was about 9 months and we went somewhere together and she was literally dragging her baby by his arm saying he was walking.

Omg that’s horrible and that’s not even healthy for the child’s legs to be doing that. My friend was telling me her daughter is walking but whenever we met her daughter wouldn’t walk lol

Omg my MIL does this but she compares my son to my husband at that age. It is super obnoxious.😑
It's not a damn competition!
Honestly I'd probably just snap someday and say exactly that. Maybe she just doesn't know what else to talk about of not her kid?

My sister and brother both have children the same age, and have been doing this for years, really my brother, but it is very annoying, even for me. I feel like it just sets up the kid to act better than everyone else.

I would end my personal relationship with her. I'd see her at social gatherings, but we wouldn't hang out together, and we wouldn't have phone conversations. I'd end the friendship

I think that’s what I’ll have to do is limit my contact with her. I’ve kind of been doing that. Whenever she asks for a play date I say I’m already busy I always try to push it as far as I can, and I try to limit our conversation to once a week.
