Ohhh man this whole breastfeeding situation is really getting on my nerves. My LO attaches great but he keeps falling asleep and a couple of h later he's hungry again plus there must be something that I keep eating (not sure what) that really upsets he's little tummy and wakes him up trying to push out farts and poop. Every time I give him formula, which is pretty much every night so he can get 4h straight, he's got not a problem whatsoever tummy pain gone and sleeps without a problem. I wanna give him the best and healthiest start in like but full time breastfeeding doesn't really do it for me and his dad get grumpy when I give him formula at night to get him sleep better what the hell

One of the hardest parts about breastfeeding a newborn is keeping them awake. Undress him play with his hair and ears and feet, change nappy in between sides and if it all fails them put him down and try again when he’s really hungry. Try and get in both sides of you can so he’s full and he’ll start sleeping longer stretches. With tummy issues I’m not sure except to burp between feeds or maybe try cutting dairy. If it all fails formula is fine but there some tips if your eager to breastfeed I’ve breastfed all my babies and they were all sleepy newborns

The first 6 weeks are the hardest I think. My little one seemed to cluster feed a lot, especially in the first month. Your lo is meant to be hungry eveey couple hours. My little man is 12 weeks tomorrow and has just started sleeping longer. I was up every 2.5 to 3 hrs until just a couple weeks ago. He was doing a 6,3,3 and now it seems to be a consistent 4 or 5 hours at night. He goes down usually around 7:30 and can wake up anywhere between 11:30 or 1:30 and then again around 5. It definitely does get easier you just have to stick it out, if that's what you want to do.

I also express around 4oz so my hubby can give our lo a bottle just before he goes down at night and it makes my life a little easier, I get a break to shower, if I do happen to express more (which doesn't happen often) then my husband will give him a bottle through the night.

My lo doesn't always but sometimes will wake up to fart but it's a quick second and he is back to sleep. I find juice doesn't agree with my little man any acidic juice just doesn't agree with his tummy.

If bf isn't for you then it's not but if you want to bf then keep going I promise it gets better 😊

@leahplummer you're totally right about getting both sides in. I always make sure to change him in between a feed so he takes in the other side.

Breastfeeding is tricky in the beginning. It takes time to establish and learn how to feed correctly.

Breast milk only stays in the body for 45 minutes and it's extremely normal to feed constantly. Cluster feeding helps to regulate your supply, tops baby up and continues to tell your milk what baby needs.

There will be times your baby wants "extra" feeds but the truth is there's no set amount of feeds. You wouldn't wait 3-4 hours to have a drink would you? Baby's feed for more than just food, it's for thirst, comfort and if bubs is falling asleep take comfort yourself that baby feels safe, secure and comforted. If baby is hungry feed them again Hun. If baby is gaining weight each week and producing plenty of wet and poopy nappies then they are getting enough.

If baby isn't gaining weight and producing lots of nappies and is falling asleep you could try wiping their face with a wet washer, tickling their feet or undress them to feel cooler.
