I hate the mom I feel like I'm becoming....I need help...
My son has a severe milk protein allergy and reflux. The congestion and crying uncontrollably is worse when his reflux acts up. Totally cut out the solids and ask about maybe including zantac into his routine.
I saw this interesting similac formula that was something about being specific for breastfed babies switching to formula or something it was interesting never saw it before
I use parents choice too (the infant one) my Wal-Mart has only had the parents choice, tender, gentle, advanced, or rice starch. They were out of a lot of stuff today so I'll have to check tomorrow and see what they have
Also, don't be afraid to tell your doctor that you feel he or she isn't hearing what your saying. Reiterate that you're truly concerned. Restate the symptoms and length of time he's had them once you've gotten the doctors attention.
They are people to, if you need to call them out, do it but politely. Be insistent and be proud of it. You are his advocate and you know him best.
Hopefully they can either put your mind at ease and explain why they think a certain way and what puts him in the clear of say wheezing. Or they'll run tests to get to the bottom of your concerns.
Truly I hope you can get this resolved, worry can eat away at you even more than being overwhelmed.
I always used Parents Choice (walmart brand). SAMS club sells it too.
They need to be more concerned. Honestly, if I felt I wasn’t getting adequate care for my kid, I’d go to urgent care or even the ER. Until someone gave me a damn answer. Cuz a baby shouldn’t be congested for almost 5 months. Poor lil thing
Is there a certain formula you would recommend? Also he was breast fed for about 3 weeks before I got sick and my supply dried up.
Like I brought it up at his two week appointment and that doc said it was due to him being a newborn, then I brought it up again when I took him in to check for an ear infection and that doc (different from the first) said it was due to teething even though I told her hes been congested since he was born.
Ughhh I’m so frustrated for you! Sounds like his doctor is an ass!
Have you ever tried organic formula? I don’t know if it’ll make a difference. But since he’s been like this forever, and has always been on the same formula, it couldn’t hurt to try.
No they haven't cause when they listen to him they say he doesn't wheeze that his lungs sound clear....but if they sound clear why is he definitely congested and I had asthma as a child due to premature lungs so I know what wheezing sounds like
Have they ever put him on oxygen to see if it’s helped? I’m wondering if he may have asthma
Yeah he does and coughs and he has always coughed its usually dry unless hes been crying a lot then its wet
My goodness girl. I don’t know what else to suggest 😔. Does he wheeze at all?
I have no idea I'll see if I can get a referral, yeah I use that well not zarbees brand but a different one that's for babies
Can you get a referral to an ENT (ear nose throat specialist)?
Also- get Zarbees soothing chest rub!! It’s like Vick’s vapor rub, but for babies. It’s safe for his age
Nope never been around cigarette smoke funny thing was we moved from a high altitude to a lower one which should have helped and it didnt at all
Yeah he’s definitely too young for the solids. You should start around 6 months. But he doesn’t even NEED them that early either.
That’s a damn shame!! They should be concerned. A baby shouldn’t be congested for months straight. Does anyone smoke around him?
Ive brought up the congestion to a couple different doctors a couple of times they don't ever seemed concerned
Hes always been a little congested since he was born and its just gotten worse over time hes been on solids since 3.5 months he's almost five months now
Ive tries both gas drops and gripe water I have no idea if it works I think its hit or miss, he doesnt like the swing, he does like car rides but the older one can only tolerate them, for so long,
I'll try Camilla...where would I get that? I used to have his bed at an incline I guess ill make it at an incline again and see if that helps at all...come to think of it it has seemed to get worse (the congestion) since started solids so ill definitely be cutting that out at once
My boys have never gotten a fever with an ear infection.
Does he like the swing? Or car rides? I use to drive mine around til they’d fall asleep. I’d hit a drive thru and jus sit in my car. I’d get a meal in peace, and they’d get some rest.
Have you tried gas drops or gripe water?
@tbree121 the only other doc in this town is booked for months in advance (small town) Idk she used to help then all of a sudden quit and it sucks cause she wanted me to move closer so she could help me more and I did and then she just quit
Sounds like your baby is in discomfort. I would also suggest cutting out any food until 6 months of age and just give formula. See how your baby adjusts from that.
I absolutely love Camillia for teething, also helps with irritability.
My son suffered for almost a year with congestion due to narrow/immature passages. Hydrasense nasal spray and I have a battery operated Graco nasal aspiration helped us so much. Steam, humidifier and/or put something under the crib mattress to create an incline are a few tips to help with congestion.
Also he was checked for an ear infection earlier in the week and doc said his ears were clear and that hes just teething
The hot shower may seem like it’s making it worse. But it’s prob just breaking it up, which makes him sound worse.
@ashb9689, I’ve had MANY days that I just want to walk out! Hell I had one earlier this week. Being a mom is hard as hell. Holding it together, by yourself, when your spouse works nonstop, is hard as hell. Trust me, I know. I don’t feel guilty for my feelings. I love my kids and would never do anything to harm them. I’d never leave them. But DAMN, momma wants a break sometimes!!
Don’t beat yourself up for feeling like that. It’s okay.
I agree with everyone else. Cut out solids and call the pediatrician. Even if he's sick, it's common for ear infections to occur during colds and allergies. That could be another issue.
I use a humidifier and it doesn't make a difference at all, ill try cutting out solids, he did go a few days without solids earlier in the week and it didnt seem to make a difference but ill try it again, he does use a organic teething gel (doctor advised against orajel) ive tried the steamy bathroom it oddly seemed to make it worse?
I see the baby is only four months, I'd cut out the solids, all of them at this point and stick strictly to the formula. Your baby doesn't need solids yet and I bet it helps. Reintroduce after six months.
Also, do you have the wonder weeks app? Your baby is probably going through a leap and you can get a lot of information and a good guess of when things will be easier with that app.
Best of luck!
@ashb9689, ok first things first. Your 4mo should not be eating solids. At all. That could be a huge reason he’s crying nonstop. His little belly can not handle food at 4mo. And he certainly doesn’t NEED it. I would immediately stop giving baby food.
You say he’s congested, coughing and sneezing. Are you doing anything for that? A humidifier will help. Also run your shower very hot, and sit in the bathroom with him. The steam will help loosen the congestion. I’m sure that’s another reason he cries so much. Being sick isn’t fun. He may also have an ear infection. Sucking a bottle hurts when the ears are infected. And you say he’s not eating as much. I’d get another opinion.
Are you using oragel in case he is teething?
Oh honey, can you see another doctor? That sounds truly overwhelming.
Obviously you know yelling at a little toddler doesn't help, but forgive yourself and do better.
Why won't your mom help? Would she watch the toddler while you bathe and lay skin to skin with baby? Just so you can de stress?
Make sure when you talk to the doctor that your mentioning the feedings.
Could he be constipated, or reacting to the solids?
Bad day everyday Idk what's wrong its just so difficult lately my youngest is so fussy everyone is saying hes teething but I just know in my gut its not just teething that may be part of it but not all of it, he just cries constantly the past two-three days he hasnt been eating his usual 6oz per feeding he might eat 4oz in one feeding but its more like 1-2oz and its every four hours and that's when I make him eat, otherwise he won't eat, its weird because he'll eat baby food relatively fine just not formula and its the same formula he has always been on, and its not just the usual baby crying its outright screaming no matter what I do and he'll do it for hours at a time till I finally get him to go to sleep, sometimes he'll have a few moments of being happy and sitting up and playing but then its right back to screaming. And then that sets my 14 month old off he is teething and now I think he's coming down with something cause this morning he woke up with a runny nose and sneezing and he's been sleeping more and the 4 month old is congested and coughing and sneezing hes been like that for well over a week now, I took him to the doctor but the doctor just said he's teething and I know its not and I just get so frustrated when theyre both screaming and I cant do anything to help them and I just feel like a failure cause I wind up yelling at the oldest one for over reacting which makes him cry more, and makes me feel horrible or i make sure they are both safe somewhere and walk away for a few minutes but I feel even, worse doing that and DH is gone all the time cause hes working and my moms here but she literally won't help me at all and I just feel like im losing it more and more everyday like there's times where I just want to walk out the door and not, come back and it breaks my heart that ive gotten to that point cause all I've ever wanted was to be a mom
What’s going on? We all have bad days, we are only human. All we can do is try to do better next time.
My son has been a defiant little brat lately, and last week was tough to manage reactions and him. This week, I can definitely say I’m doing better.
