Hoping to get some opinions. My sons school said he fell and scraped his knee, so they bandaged it. We didnt worry cause scraps happen all the time.. but apparently it blistered underneath bandage, and it popped in middle of night, he woke up screaming saying it hurt... me and hubby feel it looks more like a burn, than a scrap... pls tell us your thoughts?? Picture in comments.
That looks bad! I guess he must've Babb a champ about it. Had it been my seven year old. ..they'd have had to call me to collet my baby lol. He's got crocodile tars down!
I guess im really more upset, that the school didnt even notify us when it happened... they wouldnt have said anything at all, if we hadnt asked him, when we picked him up, what happened to his knee.. then the teachers non chalantly said he fell and scrapped his knee... i think im letting my anxiety get to me as well... thanks ladies!
@khungy unfortunately i only know it happened on playground.. but the playgrounds are covered with those black rubber mats, which i know can still cause a "road rash", which i know is still a type of burn, just found out today it actually called a friction burn... so it very well could be that.
They probably said to not put anything on it so that it could dry out, which is often what we suggest at the hospital. It staying moist actually makes it a breeding ground for bacteria and infection. I would suggest putting a thin layer of Polysporin on it and letting it dry out rather then covering it up.
I would cover it he’s a kid it’s going to get so dirty I would use poly smear it on the bandage (cotton one ) so it doesn’t stick it looks like a burn like road burn or something so it’s likely from running tripping and sliding on that rubber stuff
Hmmm, I would think it’s better to put some antibiotic ointment with some gauze rather than nothing at all?
I’ve been burned and scraped at the same time on those rubber playground mats
Looks like a scrape to me just needs some air to scab up... put some Polysporin complete to help heal & ease some of his pain
I should have said we did take him to urgent care, first thing this morning, as his pediatrician wasnt in office. Dr at urgent care, first told us it was just a scrap, then turned around and asked us if he burnt his knee... then told us not to put any type of ointment on it as it does more harm then good and no bandage... this is the first time ive ever heard such a thing.
@beach..bum the play grounds have the rubber mats, instead of concrete or sand.. but its a possibility, thats what we figured happened.
Could he have gone down the slide on his knees and it was hot and burned it? Kinda like a carpet burn? Or maybe fell and the concrete was hot?
It does look like a scrap, and then like he had an allergic reaction to the band aid.
Mmmm yea that doesn’t look like he fell and scraped his knee. I would take him to the urgent care so they can take a look at it.
@penelope127 I was going to say this too.
