anyone had or getting the down syndrome test, is it worth doing and how is it done? 👶🏻

It used to be done by a needle through your stomach but this time I was just offered a blood test for it x

I had a blood test. I'm glad I have done it and that everything is ok!!

I had the risk assessment- which they take a blood sample and look at the back of baby's neck (at the 12 week scan). Then they will write to you and let you know if you are at a high or low risk to have a Down's syndrome baby. Then if you are high risk you'll be offered amniocentesis which is when they put a needle into your belly and extract some of your amniotic fluid and that will tell you for definite if baby has it or not. I personally wouldn't have the amniocentesis as there are risks with that and I'd keep the baby regardless. I just had the blood test so if I was high risk I could educate myself about it before baby was born just incase xx

My mw said to me "would you abort baby if you found out something was wrong?" My answer was no so there was point in having the test done. Its done via a scan that measures the amount of liquid at the back of babies head then a blood test as well.
