So ladies advice on baby sleep please. Hamza is generally a good napper (opposite to how Zaid was) but he's nearly 5 months old and still not doing long blocks at night. My biggest annoyance atm is that I'll put him down for bedtime at 8-9 and within an hour he'll wake up again for a small feed and go back to sleep. Throughout the night he's also not going long at all. With Zaid we used cry it out and I got 4/5 hour block followed by 2 hours 2 hours. Hamza with cry it out, he just ended up still waking up an hour later and then just did 2 hour blocks. So it doesn't seem to be working. Yd night he put himself to sleep no crying, put him down drowsy but awake, had formula and breastmilk AND STILL he woke an hour later wanting to feed. I've tried shush pat and gentle methods. But nothing. He won't be rocked or walked back to sleep either. He wants the boobs. I'm kind of lost on what to do. I know 2 hour blocks isn't the worst thing in the world, but I do think after 4 months it should start improving?

I only have the one so nothing to compare it with but Theo didn't start sleeping 3+ hours until he was about 5 months. Now at 7 months he's only waking once a night, he feeds from the breast for 10-20 minutes and then goes back down

No advice. My 10 month old still wakes for at least 2 feeds a night. If you find the cure let me know.

I don't breastfeed so i can't relate but I know with Kai he was feeding more from like 4oz feeds up to 6 or 7oz feeds and from 6 weeks he's never work during the night I put it down to him being full, how much formula is he drinking? maybe he needs a heavier milk x

I don't really believe like babies have a routine, but I feed on demand with dahli' not at set times or amounts so that probably effects things too. But dahli' is feeding exactly the same at night atm, every 2-3hours up for a feed then straight back to sleep. They have a big development leap around 4months, plus add on the teething (if yours is) and it leads to an unsettled baby. So I wouldn't worry about him not sleeping through id just stick with whatever you've been doing.

@beffgoude that's reassuring. With Hamza I've learnt to relax a lot more and take his lead. So I don't mind waking every 2 hours for a quick feed. It's just I know at 4 months thier sleep changes and so I didn't want to create a habit of that every 2 hour wake. And even more so, the earlier waking. The fact I'm putting him down for bed and he's waking every 1 hour and under for a while to top up feed? Like u said tho, could be teething as well as regression. Just plow through it I guess.

@nataliielouiseexo I don't think it's from hunger. I'm formula feeding just as a little supplement because I would like to get him used to taking a bottle, however he's very content with breastmilk and gets what he needs. It could possibly be that he's falling asleep before he finishes feeding properly and so wakes a lot till he's actually full? I don't know.

@mariapb ouch. We'll get through this together. I think my first self weaned from the night feeds around 10 months. Each child is different and I think u have to just wait it out and see how it goes.

@jamie123 thank you that's a helpful reminder to just keep going and we'll hopefully get there. My first also slowly started doing that too, especially as solids were involved. I think I'm just more worried with this one as he's so very different. And I'm so very different. I'm so tired I can't even track how many times he's waking for a feed!

Don't like to be the bearer of bad news but my evelyn is 21 months old and she still has a sleeping pattern like yours lol some babies just aren't good sleepers! I can count on one hand how many times she has slept right through :/ one day she will grow out of it and I will get a decent nights sleep lol x
Amy Howard·
My 15 month old has only just started sleeping through, and still occasionally wakes up for a drink in the night xx
Noshin·
@mrsmowmow I do think that's the biggest factor. Once they're on solids as well you know they're not waking up needing food so you can let them fuss a little
Noshin·
@mimibear defo some aren't good sleepers, lord help us that have those!
But my first was awful and I felt we were able to teach him. It was harsh but it made such a huge difference that now he's fantastic. So I have hope we can do the same again. Lol.
