HELP what do you do if your babysitter gives your kid melatonin to calm them down? Is this a crime?

Umm i would be highly pissed

They can't just give your baby something like that without even consulting you. How did they know if the baby ever had it or not or if it could cause some type of reaction. I say its illegal!!

Did they prove it was melatonin? Also since they didn't ask your permission it could've been anything they gave your child so regardless find another baby sitter

I say it should be illegal as well. Even if it's considered a natural substance, it doesn't mean you can give it to the children without permission or the okay from THEIR pediatrician or their parents.

How old is your babysitter? It’s a vitamin but so unethical to give anything to someone’s child! If she’s young, maybe talk to her to see if it’s just ignorance or she really thinks she knows best for YOUR kids. An adult babysitter I would drop immediately for that. I don’t believe melatonin to be harmful and I would feel like I couldn’t trust her just for doing it.

That said, a naive young babysitter might need to be told that vitamins are still something you can’t give kids even if it doesn’t seem like medication.

Did the babysitter know it's not good to give to a child? I would explain what they did is wrong and also find a new babysitter, cause if they didn't know that then who knows what else they think is ok.

It's only crime if you have a good lawyer 😂 sitter needs to be fired though and take some child development classes

Are you talking about your 10mo? I would contact the cops or a lawyer to see what the laws are in your state. I would say its illegal since the babysitter did not ask before hand but that's me hoping. I would start off by firing the babysitter tho.

Yeah all you can do is find another babysitter. Melatonin isn't a drug. It's something that's already in your body naturally. It's wrong they didn't ask first but if you dont agree with it all you can do is get another babysitter.

It's not a drug it's a hormone in ur brain. Supplementation in small children is not generally recommended.
