Tennessee state law says it's mandatory to rear face until a year or 20 lbs. After that it's optional. It's kinda interesting how different the regulations vary between states.
@tallflamingo @redheadedmonster I wasn't talking about the seat I had, I was talking about laws and each state has it's own laws and guidelines and it doesn't change per seat. Some seats may allow rear facing a little longer but there is still a limit.

I did 1 but they changed the law here and the research says 4
@ladyblauvelt.skysmomma, how tall was he when you forward faced? There are tons of rear facing car seats with a much higher back these days, that support the head correctly.
I wish people would also know that eventually rear facing can be dangerous for a child too when they become to tall... Those with taller children need to keep in mind it's not always about age... There is weight and height limits... Yes I turned my son around before he was 2 because he had met the height limit and if he would have remained rear facing, an accident could have potentially broke his neck if one were to occur, and yes I did do my research, my mother did her research and my boyfriend did his before we permanently made him front facing, my boyfriend also has 3 other kids... My son's father is 6'3 and my son definitely has the height gene from him, people say he's too tall to be 2 but he is almost 2 and a half. And law or no law?? The weight and height requirements are law for the safety of children and if not followed can be dangerous.
Michigan is only 1 year. I used to be resistant to the new recommendations until I had my son and did the research. After reading the words internal decapitation it made the lightbulb go on and realize this is such a simple safety measure that makes a huge impact in the event of an accident.
Law or no law, FF under 2yo is stupid, irresponsible and dangerous. “My doctor said it’s okay”. “Her legs are too long” “He gets carsick”. None of those are valid excuses.
The amount of time we (meaning society) spend online daily is honestly quite embarrassing. People will research Beyoncé’s new song, when the new iPhone comes out, etc. But won’t research ways to keep their children safe. SMFH.
It needs to change. Doctors need to be updated on all current laws, and more adamant on marking sure parents know how to keep their children as safe as possible. And people need to speak up when they see anything involving kids that can be harmful.
