Its recommended to do it before . Buuuut I do it after . Since I know I'm not feeding him a lot . So I give him whatever puree then give him a bottle or let him nurse .

Do the bottle and offer food after. He may not eat it but its better he's full on milk first

Formula or breastmilk first, that's where he's still mainly getting his nutrients, I think the food is really to get him used to transitioning to solids.
