I'd buy newborn size 1 and size 2. We were in newborn for 2 months size 1 for about 2 months. Were on size 2 now because they were starting to fit funny. I never go by the weight just how they fit baby since every baby is shaped different. But if you need to tske a size back as long as they arent open I know Wal-Mart will take them even without a receipt

He was in a size 3 by 3/4 months. But he was born 9lbs so never even wore newborn.

So long as a package is unopened, most places will let you exchange for a different size. (I've never had a problem with Target, even without a receipt.) So, get a few packs of both newborn and size 1, or the big value boxes, and don't open them until the baby is here.
